Review: Funkit Toys NoFrilldo G

The NoFrilldos are a line of toys produced by Funkit Toys, a one person indie manufacturer. They’re designed specifically for low production costs, in order to keep the price affordable and accessible- each toy is $24.

When educating people about sex toy material safety, one of the principle concerns people express to me is affordability. And I can totally understand this! Truth be told, running this blog is the only way I have access to many of the sex toys I own. I’m very conscious that some of the toys I review aren’t going to be financially accessible to some people, and that this is something that especially impacts trans communities, as employers are less likely to hire us. It sucks that unsafe toys still sell so well, but given cost is a big factor behind this, Funkit Toys’ decision to focus on a line of quality, affordable, and body safe toys is a fantastic way to combat this. I’ve seen the NoFrilldos referred to as ‘the cup ramen’ of sex toys, and I love this and just generally the whole concept of the NoFrilldo line. It’s an excellent idea and really well executed.

The NoFrilldo G cupped loosly in my hand

There are three designs in the NoFrilldo Series 1, with names based off the RGB colour model (although they are also sold under the names Twisty, Curvy, and Bumpy), and the colour options are based off the CMYK colour model- you have the choice to have your toy in cyan, magenta, yellow, and black. I was sent the NoFrilldo G/Curvy to review, in the colour black. I’m definitely interested in buying the other two NoFrilldo designs (especially the B/Bumpy), but for now I’m just reviewing this one. Funkit also recently released a Nofrilldo Series 2, with two new models, the X and the L.

The NoFrilldo Curvy was sent to me by Spectrum Boutique, an awesome sex-positive, all body safe sex toy retailer. They’re super inclusive and welcoming to all genders and bodies, and I wholeheartedly recommend them.

The texture at the tip of the NoFrilldo. The texture looks like a series of ringsIn all honesty, I was unsure how well the NoFrilldo would work for me. I tend to be on the size royalty spectrum, so while I was looking forward to trying the NoFrilldo for anal, I was less excited about front hole penetration. The NoFrilldo Curvy is a pretty small toy, with a 1.25 inch diameter pretty much all the way down the shaft, and an insertable length of 6.6 inches. It has a flared base, so is anal safe and harness compatible. While there was some slight texture to the head of my NoFrilldo Curvy (see left), this was the result of the 3d printing used in the manufacturing process, and doesn’t add any kind of texture or feeling in use. The tip is slightly tapered, and the silicone glossy and firm. Because of the curve, I mostly wanted to try the NoFrilldo for g-spot and prostate stimulation.

The NoFrilldo did work for me for front-hole g spotting, and I don’t think I could ask more of it. I enjoyed it, and while it didn’t particularly blow me away, I don’t think I was the target audience for vaginal use. I’m generally not a big g-spotting fan, and my go to way of using dildos is using them in combination with external stimulation. Because of this, I prefer g-spotting dildos that aren’t too intense, and that I can still thrust while using.

That said, the firmness of the NoFrilldo’s silicone does work better for my preferences than I was expecting. It’s firm enough for good g-spot stimulation without being too much for my spoiled, soft-silicone preferring vagina. The curve isn’t too dramatic, which probably helps the thrustability of the toy as a whole. It’s definitely a bit on the smaller side for me, but bear in mind I can take and enjoy taking pretty big toys. Even though I didn’t expect the NoFrilldo Curvy to work for my vaginal toy preferences, it still did a pretty good job.

nofrilldo4Even if it wasn’t the toy for me, that doesn’t mean it’s not the right toy for other bodies. My boyfriend really enjoyed using the NoFrilldo for front hole penetration. While he’s can be just as much size royalty as me (if not more), he also likes g-spotting way more than I do.

He said that the curve was what made the NoFrilldo G work for him. While he also doesn’t feel the girth in use, the curve and firmness in combination make it super effective for his g-spot. It so perfectly hits his g-spot that it (plus a vibrating butt plug) was able to give him his first orgasm from not touching his dick.

The NoFrilldo was also actually the first dildo I fucked my boyfriend in the ass with! The tapered tip I mentioned earlier, as well as the small diameter, made it excellent as his first anal dildo. He did warm up beforehand, with fingers and then a small plug, but the NoFrilldo still was very easy for him to take. It was also very comfortable for me to wear in a harness. While the base was too small for me to get any kind of stimulation from it pressing against me when I was topping my boyfriend, it was still pretty comfortable. Sometimes dildo bases can bash against my pubic bone uncomfortably, but this didn’t happen with the NoFrilldo Curvy.

The NoFrilldo’s prostate stimulation, the comfort of having it in a harness, and the ease at which my anal-beginner boyfriend was able to take this dildo all make me think it would be an excellent toy as a first or beginner’s pegging 1 toy. While I didn’t love it as a vaginal toy, this is definitely due to my preferences rather than any kind of fault in the toy, and it still worked surprisingly well given my preferences basically set it up to fail for this. If you’re more into g-spotting or less into size, it’s definitely a toy that might suit you for vaginal sex more than it did me, as my boyfriend can attest.

The NoFrilldo G next to a buttplug

Overall, I was really impressed by my NoFrilldo Curvy. It and the other NoFrilldos fill a gap in the market that really needed to be filled, that of a low cost, body safe, versatile, newbie-friendly dildo. I’d especially recommend it to those new to sex toys who are unsure what kind of toys they like, to those who prefer their g-spotting dildos to be on the smaller side, and those new to anal sex (strap-on or not). I’m really glad I got the opportunity to try the NoFrilldo Curvy, and I’m really excited to try some of the other toys in the NoFrilldo line in future (I have my eye on the B/Bumpy next!).

1. Generally I hate the word ‘pegging’, because it’s a) incredibly gendered and b) my main association with the term is “”straight”” chasers with bad gender politics trying to talk to me on Grindr. However, I’m using it here instead of ‘anal sex with a strap-on’ to save time (and for SEO reasons)
