Review: Avant Pride P2

So some time last year, Blush Novelties released a line of LGBTQ+ Pride themed dildos in their Avant range. The Avant Pride range contains 6 sex toys, 3 of which are dildos and 3 of which are butt plugs. And while the classic rainbow flag is present (in the form of P1), it also has a bunch of flags I never expected to see on toys outside of small indie manufacturers, including the transgender pride flag (P2) genderqueer pride flag (P6), gender fluid pride flag (P5), lesbian pride flag (P3), and leather pride flag (the P4). There’s also a second series of the Avant line releasing in 2019, which includes the asexual flag, bisexual flag (which I need), and bear flag (which I double need!).

I lusted after them the moment they were released, even more when I saw the P2 in its trans pride colour glory, and yet still more each time I saw a review of the P2 (although I did majorly side eye the fact that most of the reviews of this dildo were coming from cis bloggers 1). But alas, Blush Novelties products are hard to find outside of the US, and shipping fees and import duties turned me off from getting myself one. That is, until I managed to find a single UK shop selling them.

I’m not affiliated with this shop, which is Latex, Leather & Lace. I’m also really not sure if they’ll still have this dildo in stock by the time this review goes up, because I got one of the last two they had in stock. But they are a UK based shop who actually sell Blush Novelties products, including most of the Avant Pride line, so worth a look if you’re UK based and want to avoid import duty. I got my P2 there for £29.99.

If you’re US or Canada based, however, I’d definitely recommend looking to see if SheVibe have the P2 (or any other toy from the Avant Pride range you’re interested in) in stock.

The Avant P2 is a really interesting shape, and I don’t think I’ve ever had a dildo shaped quite like it. It’s the same form as the rainbow coloured toy in the same line (the P1), with a small but well defined head, a thinner body, and then a widening of the shaft near the base. It has a flared based and a suction cup, making it anal safe and harness compatible (in theory anyway). The Avant P2 is a very petite toy, and possibly the smallest dildo I own. The slimmest part of the body has a less than 1 inch diameter, and the insertable length of the P2 is just 5.5 inches.

The Avant P2 has a feature I really like, which is the authenticity check. On the box, there is a scratch off serial number, which you can enter on Blush’s website, which will then confirm if the product is an authentic Blush product or not. I think it’s great that Blush introduced this feature! While all the retailers I work with are trustworthy, and I suggest not buying sex toys from Amazon (Dangerous Lilly has a great post on why), having this feature at least introduces some level of safety.

Like with my previous review of a dildo that came in trans flag colours, the Geeky Sex Toys Pride Dildo, my main motivation behind acquiring the Avant P2 Pride dildo was that I am a sucker, and all that’s needed to make me a follower of Rainbow Capitalism is make a dildo in the trans pride colours. And the colours are really nicely done here! The boundary between each ring of colours is really well defined, with very little fuzzing. There are a few lines of excess silicone on the head, but I don’t feel these in use, and only really noticed them because I fondled the P2 for the first few hours after getting it. The silicone is very soft and flexible, and I was hoping this would make it incredibly comfortable in use.

The curve of the P2 suggested to me that it was suitable for both g-spotting and prostate stimulation. If I was being charitable, I’d say the fact this toy is anatomy neutral is a really nice touch given it’s trans flag colours. I’m not being charitable though, and I know that the same mould was used for the rainbow flag toy in the same line (the P1). So no extra credit from me, although it is still nice the P2 is anatomy neutral.

I was sadly disappointed when using the P2 vaginally. The thinness of the P2’s neck, plus the squish and softness of the silicone, means that when I try to use it for g-spotting, it moves out of place juuust enough that it’s no longer in the right spot for me. Thrusting it creates a nice sensation for sure, but it’s not the kind of targeted stimulation that’s needed for g-spotting, and I tend to feel most of the stimulation near the entrance to my vagina. When it came to vaginal use, I preferred to just put the P2 in my vagina and clench down on it. The shape does suit this more than other toys I’ve tried, but it’s still definitely way too on the small side for me.

I had similar issues with using the P2 for targeted prostate stimulation as I did g-spot stimulation. I did find I enjoyed using it way more for anal than vaginal penetration though. The shape and firmness seem to really work for anal, with the bump in the lower shaft being the perfect position for sphincter stimulation if I’m using the head for prostate stimulation, even if it’s less firm than it could be. Feeling a lot of shallow stimulation when thrusting works for me with anal, and I preferred using the P2 for thrusting in my ass.

I really love the P2 as an anal dildo, and I wish I’d gone straight to using it for that. Using the P2 anallly while using the Geeky Sex Toys Pride Dildo (double the tran, baby!) is my go to way to use the P2, be it partnered or solo. The softness of the silicone makes it super comfortable, the length isn’t too long, and even if it’s not right for targeted prostate stimulation, the P2 is still good at stimulating everywhere I personally want to be stimulated anally. The P2 is also definitely usable as a ‘put it in there and clench’ type toy in the ass, and while it doesn’t quite work as a plug (as the thickest part of the toy is near the base, and this can make it hard to hold in) it feels great to use the P2 as a psudo-plug, or rocking back on it gently.

The suction cup was great for this kind of gentle rocking. That suction cup is super strong. I’ve only been able to test it against wooden surfaces and a wooden floor, but it’s very effective. The suction cup does not budge at all. I’d really like to try the P2 with an actual sex toy mount in future, but for now I can’t speak to how well that works. The P2 is harness compatible, and given I prefer the P2 thrusting for anal, it’s pretty intuitive that I prefer the P2 for anal when my boyfriend wears it in a harness. The P2 does fit into a harness comfortably, and gentle shallow thrusts work very well with anal penetration. He can’t pound away, but little gentle thrusts feel amazing.

One use I did find that the P2 was perfectly sorted to is muffing. Which is definitely a coincidence, but a funny one nevertheless. For those who don’t know, muffing is the act of penetrating the inguinal canals2 (with fingers or a toy). While muffing can theoretically be performed on most AMAB3 people with a penis (some intersex AMAB people as an exception), it was first named and described in the zine Fucking Trans Women #0 (which you should buy- here’s a link), by a woman called Mira Bellweather. While I haven’t been able to use the whole length of the P2 for muffing, the small head and minimal girth mean it works really well for muffing. The only downside here is I really don’t muff people that often, so that alone isn’t enough to sell the P2 to me.

I don’t hate the P2. I do like it, but I’m not blown away by it either. It’s not great as a g-spotter, and I didn’t particularly like it for vaginal play. It’s too small for my vaginal, and the silicone too easily movable for my g-spot.I found the P2’s strengths to firmly be in anal use, and the P2 is now the toy I reach to by default if I fancy some comfortable, easy anal play, and I adore the P2 for muffing. But I don’t know if those two things alone are strong enough to make the P2 worth buying for all consumers.

If the main appeal of the Avant P2 is the trans pride colours though, it’s probably not worth it. Get the Geeky Sex Toys Pride Dildo instead. If you’re looking for a small g-spotting dildo (especially one you can thrust), get the NoFrilldo G instead of the P2. If you’re specifically looking for a small, gentle vaginal toy, the P2 might be worth it. But I’m hesitant to suggest buying the P2 unless you know its strengths align with very one or a few very specific ways you’re interested in using it.

You can buy the Avant Pride P2 from SheVibe for $28.99

This toy was bought of my own accord and was not given to me in exchange for a review. Affiliate links were used in this post.

1. For the record, I really don’t mind if cis consumers want to buy this toy. In fact, having demand for it will probably keep it being produced longer. I just think the decision to do blogger outreach to almost exclusively cis bloggers, for a dildo in trans pride colours, is questionable at best.

2. The inguinal canals are the voids from which the testicles descend

3. AMAB = Assigned Male At Birth. I specify AMAB people with a penis here, rather than just saying ‘people with penises’ as trans men can have penises without having inguinal canals
