Review: Velvet Thruster Mini Teddy

Disclaimer: A few days before this post was scheduled to go live, my partner broke up with me. I had some mixed feelings about posting it, but ultimately decided that because the Teddy Thruster is so heavily tied to partnered sex for me, I won’t feel emotionally ready to use it solo for a while, let alone write a whole new review. Because of this, I thought it was best to post this review as it was originally, with this addition at the top.

The Velvet Thruster Mini Teddy is the first toy of its kind I’ve owned. While I’ve tried toys from the pulsating Fun Factory Stronic line, I’ve never tried a thrusting dildo before. That’s not to say I haven’t been intrigued by the idea of having a thrusting dildo. My partner and I have both fantasised about using fucking machines before, so when SheVibe offered me the chance to review this self contained miniature fucking machine, I said yes without hesitation.

thrustAt $135, The Velvet Thruster Mini Teddy isn’t cheap, but it is a lot more affordable than most fucking machines. It has 6 different thrusting speeds, a thrust length of just over 2”, and can produce up to up to 125 strokes per minute. When collapsed, the Teddy has a total length of just under 9”, with 5″ of this being made up by the dildo portion. While I definitely wouldn’t call this toy waterproof it is splashproof, with the charging port being covered up by a silicone tag. The Teddy Thruster comes in black, red, lilac, and an adorable mint green colour. The mint green is my absolute favourite of the shades that the Teddy is offered in, but the lilac does match the colour of the other thrusting dildos that Velvet Thruster produce.

In response to criticism of these original Velvet Thrusters, a suction cup has been added to Teddy’s base, the motor casing is smaller than on the OG thrusters, and the control buttons have been moved. I haven’t tried any of the original Velvet Thruster models before, so I can’t speak about the extent to which these changes improve the Velvet Cock Thrusters, but can point you towards some reviews of the OG thrusters by fellow sex bloggers Red Hot Suz and Super Smash Cache.

The Teddy thruster is anal safe, and I actually enjoyed using it anally far more than vaginally. The Teddy’s dildo portion is quite small and firm, while my preferences for front hole penetration tend towards the opposite. While I have seen some other bloggers use a Vixskin penis sleeve onto the Teddy to change the size and firmness, I don’t own any kind of penis sleeve because neither I nor my partner have a standard issue penis. I tried out the Teddy not just for solo masturbation but for partnered sex, where it helped me spitroast my partner.

The two of us had talked about our fantasies of him being penetrated by both my strap-on dildo and a fucking machine before, and it was incredibly fun to try out in real life. It’s not the same as being spitroast by two partners (which is something we have done before) due to the firmness of the Teddy’s dildo portion, but we specifically fantasied about him being fucked by a machine, so it didn’t bother us. If you’re looking for something more soft and realistic feeling, check out Vixen’s silicone penis extenders.

buttons1.pngThe Teddy’s strokes do slow down a little when it receives any kind of resistance. While it does lack the same kind of weight a human partner would, the speed makes up for it. The suction cup does make fixing the Teddy into place easier than I imagine it would be with the boxy bases on the OG Thrusters, but positioning was still something my partner and I struggled with. We don’t have a toy mount, but I’d suggest looking into one. We ended up using the back of a hard IKEA chair and the corner of my wardrobe for our sex toy based threesomes. Because of these slightly odd setups, I really appreciate the positioning of the buttons on the Teddy.

buttons2.pngThe power on/off button is on a different side of the thruster body to the buttons that increase or decrease thrusting speed, so risk of accidentally turning the thruster off is minimised. While I’d love some kind of remote control to make controlling the thruster easier during partnered sex, I’m aware that’s mostly just me being super fussy and spoiled. For solo sex I’ve also used blankets shoved between my legs to keep the Teddy in position, as well as squatted over the Teddy when it’s suctioned to the floor or a hard chair base.

The main quibbles I have with the Teddy thruster are those born of size. While you can insert it deeper than 5”, this means inserting some of the accordion-like folds on the side of the Teddy. It’s not really feasible if (like us) you’re using the Teddy with a condom. The fact we primarily have used the Teddy for anal is in part because of this relatively small insertable length, and a larger size would definitely mean I’d get more out of front hole use. That said, using a penis extender with the Teddy is definitely an option, and it’s something I’d love to try in the future. Aside from this, my only real issue with the Teddy thruster is noise. It’s not a quiet toy, although I have heard it’s quieter than the OG Velvet Thrusters. My flat’s walls are relatively thin, so I’ve taken to making sure my flatmates are out before using the Teddy. And this isn’t a issue, but I definitely want to mention the charger for the Teddy is an outlet charger rather than a USB charger, so if you’re outside of the US, you’ll need a power plug adaptor to recharge the Teddy. I, in my hubris, kept putting off getting a power plug adaptor until my Teddy ran out of charge and then had to wait for the one I ordered to arrive. In the Teddy’s defense though, the charge did last a few hours of use, and I’m very satisfied with the charge time/battery life ratio.

Overall, I’m a big fan of the Teddy Thruster. I don’t have a huge amount of toys to compare it to- the Fun Factory Stronics do self-propel but with a much shorter stroke length and the sensation is pretty different, with the Stronics offering a gentle rocking instead of the Teddy’s thrusting- but I really enjoyed using the Teddy anally. It was a great fit for the fucking machine fantasies my partner and I have, and I think it could be a great toy for sex workers who make video or photo content, as a more affordable alternative to full sized fucking machines.

If you’re looking for a toy that’s larger or feels more like a standard issue penis, the Teddy may be a little small and firm for you unless you pair it with a penis extender. It probably won’t become my most used toy for solo sex (although if this changes once I try it with an extender, I’ll let you know), but the Teddy does fit in perfectly with the coupled sex my partner and I have/want to have. I’m really glad we got the chance to try the Teddy out, and if your tastes are anything like mine, I’d definitely recommend it.

If you’d like to buy the The Velvet Thruster Mini Teddy, you can buy one from SheVibe for $135

  1. Really enjoyed this review, Kelvin 🙂 I’m yet to try a standard dildo let alone a thrusting one, I think I might just cut to the chase! xD Also I’m sorry to hear about your breakup. Sending lots of hugs xx
