Review: BumpHer

inhandThe BumpHer is a toy accessory I’ve wanted to try for ages, despite its unfortunate gendered name. It’s a little weird looking and a little niche, but it was something I knew I needed in my life the moment I saw it. I actually had it on my wishlist of things I wanted to ask SheVibe if I could review way back when I just joined their review program, and I’m so excited to finally get my hands on one.

Essentially, the BumpHer is a stretchy and squishy base for dildos, intended to make strap-on play more comfortable for people with vulvas. I really like strap-on play, but because I sometimes play quite rough, I can get bruised from hard dildo bases. It’s not an issue for lighter play, but sometimes after a more intense sex session, I’ve felt myself wish for some kind of cushioning. It’s something I’d seen built into dildos before- like on the Vixen Royale Mustang, which I still really want to own some day- and I’d seen some products attempt to do before- like the Sili Saddle, which I still want to try- but something drew me to the BumpHer. Maybe it was the fact it looked a bit more… vulva-y?

on_wandWhat I mean by that is that one of the things I was super curious about was using the BumpHer to simulate scissoring. I’m a really big fan of vulva-to-vula grinding, but don’t have a partner with a vulva who’s interested in that at the moment. The idea of using the BumpHer for soft manual stimulation really excited me, and I actually tried using it for solo play before I tried playing with it for strap-on play. While the BumpHer doesn’t really feel like scissoring- it lacks a lot of what I love about scissoring, like feeling my partner’s body heat and their wetness- it still feels really good to grind against. The little oval ‘clumps’ fit really well with my dick and vaginal opening in terms of distance, although your millage may vary on this.

While I find it hard (although possible!) to orgasm just from grinding against the BumpHer, one way I’ve found to use it that I really love is as a wand attachment. The stretchy hole that allows the BumpHer to be placed around the base of a dildo also allows it to be placed around a wand vibrator, and grinding against the BumpHer and my Doxy is heavenly. I love my Doxy, but even with slightly muted vibrations the firm but squishy silicone and more three dimensional shape of the BumpHer makes those vibrations feel better for me. (And it definitely doesn’t hurt that despite not being a perfect facsimile, the BumpHer and Doxy combo makes fantasising about scissoring way more vivid for me!).

That’s not to say I didn’t use the BumpHer for its intended use. The BumpHer claims to work with bases up to 3.25 inches, but I only used it with smaller dildos. The BumpHer really worked in terms of cushioning, and I was able to pound away to my heart’s content without any kind of discomfort. Again, your milage may vary depending on anatomy, but for me and my body the BumpHer worked really well.

on_toyWhile- as with non-harness use- it was very hard for me to orgasm just from grinding on the BumpHer, I did enjoy having a lot more simulation when topping for penetrative sex. Being able to orgasm isn’t really a priority for me when it comes to strap-on sex, so the stimulation feels fantastic in its own right. I especially loved using the BumpHer for strap-on blowjobs and handjobs, as while the visual being hot is enough to make me love those acts, having a little bit of sensation added to it is fucking exquisite.

The BumpHer is definitely a niche product, and I’m not going to go around recommending it to everybody. It works really well for me and my sex life personally, and I’ve found myself reaching for it for all the strap-on play I’ve been doing recently.

While anatomies do differ and I can’t guarantee the BumpHer will fit with your body the way it will mine, the only reason I can think of not to suggest trying it if you’re a person with a vulva who likes strap-on play is that you’re stone and don’t want any kind of genital stimulation at all. Other than that, it’s a toy I want to recommend in the direction of pretty much everyone who has strap-on sex. While it’s not the most flashy of sex toys, it’s absolutely going to become a necessary item for me for strap-on play.

The BumpHer is available from SheVibe for $34.99
