Review: Packer Gear Brief Harness

Firstly, I want to apologise for this review taking so long. I received the Packer Gear Briefs Harness back in March and while I used it for packing almost immediately, I hadn’t had a chance to use it for partnered play until recently, and didn’t want to post a review without discussing that aspect of the harness.

I’ve been wanting to review more harnesses for a while, and when The Pleasure Garden asked me what kind of items I’d like to review, harnesses were my first answer. Their suggestion were the Packer Gear Harnesses– available in both brief and boxer styles- and I was definitely interested! I’ve reviewed the Packer Gear line’s silicone packer before and was definitely interested in seeing what else the product line had to offer and while I’m a sucker for a luxury toy or harness, I’m always interested in having lower cost items I can point to as recommendations. I chose the briefs style harness for review, which is marginally cheaper than the boxers style harness at £32.99 to the boxers’ £33.99. Both harnesses are only available in black and have three sizing options, fitting waists between 28 and 42 inches.

The harness I received was the M/L size, which the sizing says fits between a 32 and 36 inch waist. I generally wear underwear that’s sized to fit a 34 inch waist and am a 33 inch waist in jeans, and did find that the M/L size was a little tight. While I was expecting a level of tightness- strap-on harnesses are always a little tighter than normal underwear- it was a little uncomfortable for packing. A friend actually gifted me a second pair of the Packer Gear harnesses in the size L/XL to see if that was more comfortable for packing, and if you’re looking at this harness only for packing and not for play, I’d suggest possibly doing the same and sizing up.

The fabric of the Packer Gear Brief Harness is a 95% cotton/5% spandex blend, meaning the harness is comfortable and breathable. I don’t have the greatest luck and only started having the chance for partnered strap-on sex again after lockdown as temperatures soared, but managed to avoid swamp-crotch in this harness way more effectively than I feared!

Packing with the Packer Gear Briefs Harness

For context, my normal packing setup is wearing my packer in the SpareParts HardWare Pete Commando harness, and then wearing normal underwear on top of that. My opinions on the Packer Gear Brief Packing Harness are shaped by that.

spreadI won’t lie, it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out how to pack with the Packer Gear Brief Packing Harness. Some features of this harness are pretty intuitive- the fabric panel between the O-ring and the wearer forming a pocket for the packer is one of them. I went in knowing that there was an internal strap for keeping a packer secure in place, but it took me a long time to figure out how exactly it was meant to be used, even with pictures of the harness being used for packing. Even when I figured out that the strap was meant to fit over the scrote and not the whole dick, it was still really awkward to figure out how to use. I tried packing with the silicone packer I’ve reviewed from the Packer Gear line, as I felt that was the packer I own the most likely to be compatible with the Packer Gear Briefs, and even then it didn’t really work at keeping the packer in any one place, let alone in a naturalistic position. I’m sure there is a way to use it to keep a packer in place and somebody in the comments will explain it, but I’ve been using the Packer Gear Briefs for packing at least once a week for almost five months and still not figured it out.

I’ve instead ended up mostly packing by just putting the shaft of my packer through the harness’ O-ring, and that I have few complaints about. The fabric between the packer and the wearer’s crotch does cause some issues with STP packers, and it is a little odd to just have the shaft of my packer dangling outside my underwear, but it’s serviceable.

One piece of caveat-less praise I will give the Packer Gear Briefs when it comes to packing is that the fabric choice is excellent. I mentioned earlier that it’s a great fabric for avoid swamp-crotch and I’ve been able to wear it for a day without it getting sweaty and uncomfortable, which is something I can’t say for the RodeoH harness I used to own back in the day.

Playing with the Packer Gear Briefs Harness

While I am personally tend to prefer two-strap harness, am used to having a quick scramble with straps when it comes time for partnered strap-on play, and am generally not bothered by it, the ease at which I can pull on briefs style harnesses does still make me second guess my preferences sometimes.

on_hangerI wrote a guide to strap-ons earlier this year, and all the points of criticism I have of the Packer Gear Briefs Harness when it comes to play are shortcomings of all briefs style harnesses, and not at all unique to this harness design. The lack of adjustability does mean they might not work for you any longer if you gain or lose some weight and two partners with very different body shapes might not be able to share a harness. There are some limitations on the size of toy that can be worn in it due to both the o-ring size and pulling on the fabric, and vigorous thrusting isn’t as comfortable or possible as a two-strap harness like the SpareParts Joque.

Those limitations aside, I have no complaints about the Packer Gear Briefs Harness and a lot of praise. The o-ring is about two inches in diameter when not stretched, but it does stretch pretty far- I’ve managed to fit cocks into the o-ring that are far too heavy to actually use in this harness, including a 5 inch circumference dildo I bought years ago as a joke.

There are two pockets for bullet vibrators in the Packer Gear Briefs Harness, and they are both placed exactly in the perfect position. One is along the gusset- so that the bullet vibrator sits against the wearer’s clit- and the other is in the little pocket of fabric that holds the harnessed cock- so that in missionary position it’ll press against the bottom’s clit. While the second of these doesn’t really work for me (as I don’t tend to do missionary sex and at the moment am not topping anyone who has a vagina), I think the design choice makes a lot of sense and shows a lot of thought.

Other Thoughts and Conclusions

hanger_twoBefore I summarise and conclude my thoughts on the Packer Gear Briefs Harness, I do want to bring up one aspect of harnesses that often goes unmentioned- washing. The Pleasure Garden states that this harness is machine washable, but the actual packaging only states that it is ‘washable’, and the tag on the briefs themselves say ‘hand wash in cold water’. I’ve personally been cautious and followed the packaging instructions rather than machine washed it, but if I do decide to machine wash one of my briefs harnesses I will update with how it goes.

I do think the Packer Gear Briefs Harness is a really excellent harness for partnered strap-on sex. While it has limitations, those mostly come with the harness style rather than being design flaws with this harness specifically. It’s comfortable, the o-ring has plenty of stretch, it’s available at an under £35 price tag, and the placement of the bullet vibrator pockets is well thought out. If you’re looking for an underwear style harness for partnered strap-on play and don’t mind the plain black look, I’d definitely recommend the Packer Gear Briefs Harness!

I can’t say the same when it comes to packing, however. While the harness does have some features that seem designed for packing, I haven’t had much luck in making them work, and have had to resort to the ‘shaft flopping free out of my underwear in my jeans’ style of packing. I know I’ve been recommending it for almost three years now, but if you’re looking for packing underwear, I really can’t recommend any underwear more than the SpareParts HardWare Pete Commando harness.
