Review: SelfDelve Eggplant

I wish I loved the SelfDelve Eggplant more than I do. It’s gorgeously made, with an incredibly realistic looking vegetable form and a glossy silicone surface that changes colour in response to heat (to a gorgeous blue colour!). The Eggplant comes stored in a metal canister, which enamoured me far more than the usual bag storage that I’m used to coming with toys would. And the visual innuendo of the Eggplant just straight up delights me- I’ve waggled it in the faces of way too many friends, most of whom found it just as hilarious as me. But sadly, the SelfDelve Eggplant isn’t for me. And it’s all because my eyes were bigger than my vagina’s capacity.

blue.pngMy dislike of the Eggplant is definitely a personal preference rather than anything else. And to be fair, it’s not like I didn’t know what I was getting into. I knew when SheVibe offered me a SelfDelve toy for review that the Eggplant was definitely on the chunkier end of SelfDelve’s offerings. The Eggplant’s largest diameter is 2.4 inches (giving a circumference of just over 7.5 inches) and it has an insertable length of 6.5 inches. But I thought between the soft squish (the silicone is soft compared to most non-fantasy toys), the fact the thinner end of the Eggplant has a much less eye watering diameter of 1.6 inches (circumference just over 5 inches), and the softness of the Aubergine’s taper (going from narrow to chunky end at least), it might work for me.

In fairness, the thinner end is pretty easily managable, and I did manage to (after long sessions of warm up) manage to take the Eggplant bulbous large end first. And I can see why it’s a toy that works well for others- while the Eggplant’s curve isn’t as dramatic as I’ve seen on other g-spot toys, the large head still makes it pretty effective. The consistency of the silicone is the perfect midway point between squishy enough to be comfortable (especially as such a large toy!) and having enough firmness to feel as large as it is. The slickness of the silicone meant that I needed relatively little lube for a toy of that size[ref]And a vagina as prone to dryness as mine[/ref] and, in combination with the almost reverse taper, meant that once the very end of the Eggplant was in, taking the rest was relatively easy.

inhand.pngBut despite being able to recognise that the Eggplant is an excellent toy, I just don’t feel like it was a great match for me. Despite my history as an aspiring size king, I feel like for the most part, I’m just not up to large toys vaginally any more[ref]Anal toys are another matter, but as the Eggplant lacks a flared based, that’s just not happening here[/ref]. I could get the Eggplant in fat end first with warmup, but I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I used to enjoy large toys. I definitely think it’s partly because I’ve been going through some pretty bad vaginal atrophy stuff recently[ref]I’m talking ‘getting pretty heavy painkillers’ level bad[/ref], and even though that’s calmed down, I think it still is having an ongoing impact on what kind of stimulation I find enjoyable. I think I’m just going to have to abdicate my size king throne, and the fact that the Eggplant wasn’t a toy I loved is no fault of its own. While I was hopeful that the slimmer end would be still workable even if using the larger end first wasn’t an option, the squish of the Eggplant’s silicone didn’t prevent the stem from feeling uncomfortably poke-y in use.

I do want to stress this is primarily an issue of compatibility with me, rather than a flaw of the Eggplant. I’ve had partners who’ve really loved the Eggplant, one of whom found the broad fat end excellent for squirting. While the other partner who I’ve used the Eggplant with didn’t like deep penetration, the size of the Eggplant still provided a super satisfying stretch when used for shallow penetration.

If you know you’re size royalty and interested in a toy for vaginal use, I’d definitely recommended checking out the Eggplant, which is available from SheVibe for $87. While the curve isn’t hugely dramatic, it’s still very effective for g-spotting. And for size royals looking for more shallow penetration, the silicone consistency is the perfect mix of comfortable but filling. However, if you’re more like me and less of a fan of large sizes, it’s worth checking out one of SelfDelve’s other less girthy offerings, like the Corn On The Cob or Curved Cucumber (both with a maximum diameter of 1.6 inches).

If you’d like your own SelfDelve Eggplant, you can buy one from SheVibe for $87
