Review: Dame Kip

Despite the fact that I own a lot of sex toys, I tend to stick to just a handful from each category for my day to day sex habits. In the bullet vibrator category, this tends to be the much beloved We-Vibe Tango. I thought my Tango would remain my top bullet vibe indefinitely, and if I was going to pick a toy I thought would rival it, the Dame Kip would definitely not have been my choice. While I really like Dame’s branding, and admired them when they sued the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority for rejecting their ads, I’ve also not heard the greatest things about their previous toys in terms of vibration intensity or rumblyness. But the Kip has really surprised me, in the best way possible.

The first thing I noticed about the Kip when I heard of it was that it’s very oddly shaped. While your average bullet vibrator is tapered to a point (maybe with one flat side), the Kip has a large rounded flat end. It almost resembles a super small wand vibrator rather than a traditional bullet vibrator. While the edges can be used for pin-point stimulation (which is what I ultimately preferred), the slightly convex surface can also be used to cup genitals for more broad stimulation. It was a unique enough design that I was curious, and asked SheVibe if I could review it.chargingkip.png

The Dame Kip has two colour options- Lemon and Lavender, and I received the Lemon colour. I actually really like both colour options, but like the Lemon colour just a little bit more because yellow feels like such an under-utilised colour in the sex toy world. Regardless of your colour choice, the Kip is available for $85.

I normally don’t comment on packaging because it’s not something I normally care for, but I actually really loved the way the Kip was packaged. I’ve never seen another company make packaging quite like Dame’s- it makes me think more of some kind of wellness tech product than sex toys, but in a decidedly good way. While the Kip does come with a storage bag (as well as the best designed manual and nicest charging cable I’ve ever been given with a sex toy), I honestly might just keep my Kip in its yellow[ref]Matching the Kip itself[/ref] storage box. The charging cable provided is a USB cord with magnetic connectors, making the Kip waterproof.

The Kip has three buttons- one which turns the Kip on and off and switches between patterns, a button to increase intensity, and one to decrease intensity. I’m really happy to see the separation of the buttons like this, because my number one complaint when it comes to using bullets tends to be the ease with which I can accidentally turn on patterns when trying to increase vibration intensity. Kip does have 5 patterns (including the one solid power setting), but as I’m generally a pattern disliker, I didn’t really get much use from them. Some patterns are more subtle than others, to the point where I actually didn’t realise I’d switched the Kip onto a pattern a couple of times.

kip1.pngI was really pleasantly surprised by the Kip’s vibrations. They’re not only powerful, but rumbly. While they can feel less intense than those of the Tango because the Kip is soft silicone to the Tango’s hard plastic, the fluttering of the Kip’s pointed tip (not unlike the Volta or Power Flower) feels incredible, for those of you who prefer pinpoint stimulation. While broader stimulation is less of a thing for me, using the whole of the flat concave head to cup my genitals is an interesting feeling.

While it doesn’t really fit my preferences, one of my partners really liked using the flat end against her penis and perineum. The broader stimulation worked really well for her, especially when I used the Kip like it was a small wand vibrator.

Personally? I still prefer my Tango. The hard plastic transfers vibrations just a little bit more, and because I’m very much a fan of pinpoint vibrators, the unusual shape of the Kip doesn’t make a huge difference to me. But overall? I think the two are pretty much neck and neck for me. If anything, I think the known issue with the Tango’s battery dying after a year or so might even push the Kip juuust ahead, even if does lack some of the versatility of the Tango, in terms of being able to place it in a strap-on harness, use it for penetration during muffing, or insert it into the base of a vibrating dildo.

I know that’s potentially blasphemy, but I really mean it. If you know you specifically like pinpoint vibrations, want to use a bullet vibe in a harness, want to use a bullet vibe for muffing, or want to use a bullet vibe in a dildo, the Kip might not be the best bullet for you, and I’d instead point you to the Tango. But if you want a bullet vibrator to use by itself, and you want to experiment with different types of sensation (or, like me, you’re a pinpoint lover with partner/s who like other kinds of stimulation), the Kip would honestly be my first suggestion. It’s an incredibly well designed toy, and now that Dame seem to have upgraded their motors, that applies to the whole package. While it isn’t the first bullet vibrator I’ll grab from my toybox for solo play, it’s definitely the first I’d grab for most partnered play, and the second I’d grab for solo play. I really like the Kip, and I’m genuinely excited to see what Dame will produce next.

If you’d like your own Dame Kip, you can get one from SheVibe for $85
