Review: b-Vibe x Le Wand Anal Massage & Education Set

Firstly, I want to give a big shout out to the company who sent me the b-Vibe X Le Wand Anal Massage and Education Set for review- Self & More. They’re a UK based boutique where every product is hand-selected and completely body-safe, and I’m really excited to have joined them as an affiliate! They don’t have any gendered categories, and have some really excellent guides, including ones about sex toy materials, lube, and cleaning sex toys.

itemsI asked to review the b-Vibe X Le Wand Anal Massage and Education Set in part because I’ve had such a good experience with the other b-Vibe product I’ve tried (the Rimming Plug Petite, reviewed here), but also because I’ve never really reviewed a ‘kit’ before, and I was really interested in seeing if the b-Vibe X Le Wand Anal Massage and Education Set could offer something both to anal newbies and intermediate players.

Because there are so many elements to the b-Vibe X Le Wand Anal Massage and Education Set, I’ve decided to break this review down into sections. As many of the elements of this kit are purchasable on their own rather than just in the kit, this hopefully will also make it easier to figure out what parts of the kit you want to purchase if the whole set isn’t something you’re interested in. Do note that the gorgeous blue colour of the Le Wand Petite, Le Wand Petite Curve attachment, and b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 are kit exclusives though, so if you’re in love with that shade the kit is your only chance to get them!

I’ve given the listed prices for all products, although you can get 10% off with the discount code KELVIN on each of the products I’m linking to, and not just the kit as a whole.

Guide To Anal Massage & Pleasure

guideThe first element of this kit I want to talk about is the b-Vibe Guide To Anal Massage & Pleasure. I’m really glad to see the inclusion of education materials in a kit marketed to beginners, and this 57 page full-colour and fully-illustrated booklet is a gorgeous way of communicating this information.

There’s eight sections to this booklet- ‘Getting Started’, ‘Anal Anatomy and Pleasure’, ‘Hygiene’, ‘Lubrication’, ‘Hands on Anal Massage & Fingering’, ‘Sex Toys for Next Level Anal Massage’, ‘Anal Play Extras’, and ‘Aftercare’- covering a wide range of information. I really like this booklet- the learning curve from end to end never feels jarring, and the way it’s organised makes it useful for both total anal newbies and those with some experience.

If there’s one complaint I have about it it’s that the attempt to make the anatomy section trans inclusive is quite clumsy. It’s split into ‘Anal Play for Bodies with a Penis’ and ‘Anal Play for Bodies with a Vagina’ rather than using gendered language, but still mostly just talks about cis people- the latter section refers to the perception that anal sex is not for “good girls” and the former about some people’s worry they are taken the “women’s role”, as well as being where discussions of the prostate happen. That said, it’s (and I hope this doesn’t sound too dismissive) about as good as I expect from the sex toy industry. In fairness there is a brief mention of transition impacting prostate stimulation for trans women, but overall it is a very ‘I guess we should just gender neutralise the language we use for cis people’ approach to trans inclusion.

The b-Vibe Guide To Anal Massage & Pleasure is a kit exclusive, but b-Vibe do have a free downloadable guide on their website.

The Kit Accessories

accessoriesI’m including several elements under this category, including the clean up towel, nitrile gloves, nitrile finger condoms, lubricant applicator, and the enema bulb. The clean up towel is a kit exclusive and while you can find alternatives for most of these items, Self & More doesn’t currently stock them.

I don’t have a huge amount to say about the towel, other than I love that it was included. While it’s not as soft as the microfibre sex towels I’ve become used to, it completely works as both an aftercare cleanup towel and as a towel to put over the sheets. It also had a little zippered pocket, which I have visions of using to hold nitrile gloves to conserve space when packing for a cruise-y evening.

cotThe kit comes with both nitrile gloves and finger cots/finger condoms- I’m super glad both are included as an option! I run into a lot of people who don’t know finger condoms are a thing, which is a shame. There isn’t anything particular noteworthy about the finger condoms or gloves, although I will say that I normally wear a Medium sized glove and found the provided gloves very roomy, so I think most people who don’t wear extremely large or small sized gloves will find them comfortable.

Another product included in this kit is a lubricant applicator. This works eventually like a syringe and can be used to apply lube when it’s needed at depths where may be difficult to apply otherwise. I don’t think it’ll see too much (if any) use with the items in the rest of this kit, as they’re pretty shallow. However, I do think it adds to the flexibility of this kit in terms of its suitability for people who have more anal experience.

bulbFinally, while I personally generally don’t douche before anal play, I did give the enema bulb that the kit provides a few test runs. The enema bulb is a pretty classic design, with a rounded bulb and a straight nozzle. I don’t have a huge amount to say about it, beyond the fact the neck is quite thin and small, and I did run into some trouble getting enough water into the bulb. This doesn’t hugely bother me as I don’t really douche often. If you do plan on douching more than often than not, this might be a bummer (ha!), but affordable and hygienic enema bulbs are relatively easy to find so I’m not really going to hold it against the kit. The Guide To Anal Massage & Pleasure both makes it clear that douching is optional and gives information on how to douche (don’t use cold water!), which I’m glad for!

b-Vibe Snug Plug 2

The b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 has absolutely become not only my favourite plug for longer term wear, but my favourite butt plug overall!

plug_in_handTotally different to the other plug I own from b-Vibe (the Rimming Plug Petite), the Snug Plugs have a long thin neck and a oddly shaped body- I’ve described it as a parallelogram, but it’s more of a torpedo shape. While the Snug Plugs are coated in silicone, they have internal weighted balls that make them feel more substantial than a plain silicone plug would.

There’s several sizes of Snug Plugs available, each with a slightly different weight. The Snug Plug 2 has a circumference of 3.8 inches at its widest point, has an insertable length of 4.3 inches, and weighs 114g. It’s larger than I’d personally recommend for total anal newbies, although I do love that the inclusion of the Snug Plug 2 rather than the Snug Plug 1 in this kit means it has more to offer intermediate anal players! If you’d rather have a smaller plug to play with, the Snug Plug 1- which has a circumference of 2.7 inches, insertable length of 3.4 inches, and weight of 55g- is available for £35. Alternatively, if you find you love the Snug Plug design but want a larger plug, sizes 3 and 4 are available for £40 each.

I mentioned long term wear, and in my opinion that’s where the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 really shines. The neck is exceptionally thin with a diameter of just 0.4 inches, and this thinness allows the anal sphincters to completely close up. While having sphincters open can be pleasurable, over long periods of time it can start to become uncomfortable. While in another plug this kind thin neck could mean that it’d be hard to feel the plug once inserted, the weightiness of those balls inside the plug body mean there’s a constant reminder of the plug’s presence. The anal plugs I’ve been using the most recently are metal plugs, so I am used to the weight, but compared to just plain silicone plugs, the weightiness of the Snug Plug 2 is very noticeable. The base of the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 also makes it super comfortable for long wear, not only being a T-style bar but having a slight curve to it. This means that the base sits almost perfectly between my butt cheeks, and I sometimes just completely forget that the base is there at all. There’s no discomfort from sitting down on the plug, which I have found to be an issue with some plugs.

As an aside, while I would normally choose an oil based lube for long term butt plug wear (I adore Palm Grease especially), I’ve actually found my previous go-to anal lube- the water based Sliquid Sassy– made inserting the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 far easier, even if I did need to top up lube.

with_other_plugsOf course, long term wear isn’t the only kind of way I like to use butt plugs. My other go-to is having a plug in while using an external vibrator- the Snug Plug 2 and Le Wand Petite from this kit make a fantastic combo. When I do this, again the appeal is being able to feel I have something in my butt, so the combo of being comfortable and being noticeable that the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 offers is absolutely perfect. I do find the odd shape slightly more difficult to insert than the other plugs that live in my bedside cabinet, and for short term wear while I quickly masturbate, I’m sometimes less inclined to spend the time working up to the Snug Plug. But that’s almost major laziness on my part, as well as the luxury of having so many toy to choose from. If I had to choose one plug between the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 and its rival the Pure Plug, I’d pick the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2.

However, much as I love the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2, there are some caveats. Firstly, if you’re looking for a plug to stretch out before penetrative anal sex, the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 is not it. That thin neck that lets long term wear be so comfy also means there’s no sphincter stretching during wear. Secondly, I haven’t tried the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 during penis-in-vagina sex, as I don’t bottom for partnered sex, so I can’t speak to the experience of that. Thirdly, while I have heard that the balls of the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 are meant to jiggle as you move, I personally didn’t notice any jiggling when it was actually inside me. And lastly, as I mentioned earlier I think the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 might be a little too chunky for people who are totally new to anal play, even though I am glad it was included in this kit instead of the smaller b-Vibe Snug Plug 1.

If you’d like to buy the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 separately, it’s available for £35

Le Wand Petite

I did not expect to love the Le Wand Petite as much as I do! While it’s provided in this kit because it’s usable for anal play (especially with the attachment- we’ll get onto that), the Le Wand Petite doesn’t have to be used just for anal. It’s actually made it into my bedside drawer because I really love this vibrator.

wand_in_handAs this wand is the Petite rather than the full sized Le Wand it’s much less heavy. The lightness of the Petite really surprised me when first picking it up- most of the full sized wands I’ve used before have been heavy powerhouses like the Doxy Original or We-Vibe Wand. In practice I’ve found the weight difference makes holding the Petite far more comfortable than those heavier wands, especially when using it for long periods of time.
I normally don’t talk about vibrators in terms of their ‘suitability for couples’, as I believe that all toys are couples’ toys. Penetrative sex doesn’t have a huge presence in my partnered sex life, I don’t bottom for it, and when I top my partners are often either able to get off from penetration alone or use a bullet vibrator. Buuuut, I do think it’s worth noting that I’ve found that the Le Wand Petite fits between bodies very easily, so if you are looking for a vibrator you can use during penetrative sex (especially PiV sex), the Le Wand Petite is a better choice than a lot of other wands.

I will say that if you really need an incredibly powerful vibrator, the Le Wand Petite is limited by its rechargability- a plug in wand like the Doxy might be more your thing. But I was really pleasantly surprised by the Petite, and I’m saying this as somebody who needs really rumbly vibrations to get off. The lower settings don’t do much for me and I would say they’re more buzzy with rumbly undertones than actually rumbly. But the higher vibrations are a lot more rumbly, and I think I might actually prefer the higher vibrations over the vibrations over my beloved We-Vibe Tango.

curve_and_wand

I’ve been using the Le Wand Petite a ton for solo clitoral use, as well as for anal play using the Curve attachment (more on that later). What I think is interesting is that it almost doesn’t feel like the other wands I have- while with them my orgasm is primarily the result of just very powerful rumbly vibration, the Petite feels a lot closer to my personal preference of pinpoint stimulation. It’s definitely not pinpoint in an overall objective sense, but because the Petite’s head is very small compared to say, the Doxy, it feels pinpoint-y by comparison. I think that’s why it’s better able to get me off compared to a larger mains-powered wand, despite having a less powerful motor.

The one real caveats I would give is that the Le Wand Petite isn’t waterproof (although in fairness my Doxy isn’t either, and I use a vibrator in the bath incredibly rarely), that while the Le Wand Petite isn’t super loud it is still a bit louder than some of my other vibrators, and that while the smaller size of the Le Wand Petite does make it easier to hold for long periods of time, the smaller head also makes it harder to place during tribbing.

If you’d like to buy the Le Wand Petite separately, it’s available for £99

Le Wand Petite Curve

I have a little bit of a confession to make- the only wand attachments I’ve used before were those that came with the We-Vibe Wand. They were perfectly fine, but I think they left me underestimating the potential of wand attachments.

wand_and_curveThe Le Wand Petite Curve allows the vibrations of the Le Wand Curve to be used for g-spot and prostate stimulation. It’s long and slightly bulbous- one of my partners compared it to the shape of Gonzo the Muppet’s head, which is a mildly upsetting mental image. I didn’t use the Curve vaginally, as I don’t really enjoy g-spot stimulation or vaginal penetration, but it is well designed for this if that’s more your cup of tea- there’s even a little bulge on the body of the Curve that stimulates the external clitoris if it’s being used for g-spot stimulation. I do have some concerns about this making the Curve less likely to match up to individual anatomical specifics, in the same way a lot of rabbit vibrators run into problems with needing a very particular anatomical setup to work. But I also can’t definitely speak to that being an issue given my vag is very much off limits- I’ll update this review if I try it with a partner who has a vagina.

I won’t lie, I found I had a bit of a steep learning curve in terms of figuring out how to position the Curve on the Le Wand Petite. It too a few tries before the position I was holding the Petite both became comfortable and made the buttons of the Petite accessible. It wasn’t helped by the fact that the Curve is really hard to remove from the Le Wand Petite wand head, and it took a lot of force to remove it if I wanted to slightly reposition it. While the prostate stimulation from the Curve is excellent (more on that in a sec), I only managed to figure it out a good amount of time into just using the Curve for some general anal vibrator play.

Screen Shot 2020-07-24 at 15.34.19I don’t say ‘general anal vibrator play’ as a disparaging term, mind. In fact, I deeply enjoyed using the Curve this way. The Le Wand Petite’s vibrations are more rumbly than those of the Rimming Plug– the previously most strong vibrator I’ve put in my butt- and even if it’s not giving me direct g-spot or p-spot stimulation, I really enjoy the sensation.

Wildly, the Curve has actually made me enjoy a vibrator pattern setting for the first time in my life! I deeply and truly despise patterns when it comes to clitoral stimulation, I actually enjoy having them in my butt! The Le Wand Petite has 5 non-solid patterns, all of which can be controlled independently of intensity, which I love. My favourite in combination with the Curve is probably Pattern 4, although 6 is a close second.

If you’re thinking about buying the Curve separate to the kit, I’d definitely recommend it if you have an interest in anal play. Admittedly, if you’re interested in anal, I’d recommend getting the whole kit,but still. The Le Wand Petite is an excellent vibrator and I’d recommend it on its merits as just a clitoral vibrator, but the Curve adds some flexibility and adaptability to its use.

If you’d like to buy the Le Wand Petite Curve separately, it’s available for £28

Conclusion

While you could buy the larger elements of the b-Vibe X Le Wand Anal Massage and Education Set individually, I’d personally say that it’s worth getting the set as a whole. It’s cheaper than buying the Le Wand Petite, Le Wand Petite Curve, and b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 as individual items (£150 rather than £162), as well as including accessories and education materials (and an- imo- super cute unique colour option). The education materials that are included make the kit super approachable to people who are new to anal play, while also offering something to those who have a little more anal experience.

The only mild criticism I have of the kit as a whole is that the enema bulb isn’t the easiest to fill, and the size of the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2 might be a little large for those completely new to anal play. But with the first, the enema bulb is just a small part of a large kit, and with the second, this does mean the kit has more to offer intermediate anal players. Overall, I’m a huge fan of the b-Vibe X Le Wand Anal Massage and Education Set– it’s an excellent set overall, and all of the large items in it have made their way into the ‘most used’ sex toy storage in my bedside table.
