Review: Kandles by Kitten Bi Pride Set

I’ve only reviewed waxplay candles once before, but as I’ve gotten really into incorporating candles into play, I wanted to review another set. I reached out to Kandles By Kitten, an independent artisan who produces hand poured waxplay candles, who offered to send me a set of their wax play candles for review.

Kandles By Kitten’s waxplay candles are pillar style candles weighing about 200g and measuring 120mm x 50mm, which can be purchased individually or in sets. They’re vegetable based, being made from vegetable wax, Candle dye, vegetable stearin, and coconut oil. There’s a huge variety of waxplay sets available, with themes ranging from pride colours to the Helix nebula to album covers. While I asked to review Kandles By Kitten’s Bi Pride set, there’s a whole bunch of other gorgeous sets and colours I have my eye on for the future. The set of three candles I asked for is available for £12.50, with individual candles available from £5.

In my excitement I did break open the packaging before taking pictures, but I can assure that opening the packaging did feel super special. The candles’ pigmentation is incredibly bright, and I was excited to see if the colours would maintain the brightness when dripped. The set also came with a little information card, with information about waxplay safety on one side and- because my candle set is inspired by the bisexual flag- a little quote about bisexuality on the other side. Super cute!

Because the candle wax needs to melt before play, it’s helpful to light the candles before you want to be able to drip wax. I found that an 8 minute wait was about right for me to get enough of a wax puddle to drip- remember not to leave candles unattended when they’re burning! The Kandles By Kitten candles don’t produce much smoke when blown out, and don’t have much of a scent. I’m definitely a fan of scentless candles, as scented candles may trigger nasal allergies, and because taste in scents is such a specific personal thing.

I much prefer the Kandles By Kitten pillar-style candles to the other waxplay candles I’ve tried before, as I can leave them standing on their own while the wax melts. This makes it much easier for me to engage in other kinds of play while waiting for the wax to melt, as I don’t have to worry about the candles falling over and setting my flat on fire. It also creates a really nice ambience, and I now definitely have a couple of fantasies about demon summoning roleplays. Don’t @ me.

Most of the candles stocked by Kandles By Kitten have a melting point of 54 degrees celsius, although a handful do have a higher melting point of up to 4 degrees. The wax hardens and cools fast, and the overall temperature isn’t too harsh or painful. While I definitely jump a little when the wax first drips onto my skin, I’d compare the temperature to a slightly hotter than average massage candle rather than being anything too hot and torturous.

Once hardened, the wax is super soft, which I assume is due to the oil blend. Despite the fact I’m quite hairy, I didn’t have any problem removing the wax after play, and found it can be pulled off with ease. I did spill a little wax onto my floors while playing, but didn’t have any trouble removing it.

The colour of the candles doesn’t become any less bright and bold when dripped across skin, and I was really impressed by how intense and true the shades remained. After removing the wax, I didn’t find I had any red marks left on my skin. Depending on your tastes, this may be a positive or a negative, but I definitely prefer milder waxplay, so it’s a plus in my books.

I’d definitely recommend the waxplay candles from Kandles by Kitten. KBK’s owner is a lover of waxplay, and it definitely shows in their products. The colour is exquisite, the sensations are lovely and sensual, and the different set options are delightful. Everything from the packaging up just demonstrates so much care and love that I don’t think I can recommend these waxplay candles enough!

You can buy the Bi Pride waxplay set from Kandles by Kitten’s Etsy store for £12.50, check out their many other sets, or buy one candle of your choice for £5.
