Review: Neon Wand Electric Whip

Since reviewing my Neon Wand a few years ago, I’ve had a lot of fun experimenting with and expanding the ways I can play with it. I’ve tried the Power Tripper attachment (would recommend, FYI), played with conductive rope, and got some custom electrodes (including a very mean one that can be used for branding).

Something I’d not tried yet, though, was the Neon Wand Electric Whip Attachment. Despite the name it’s a flogger rather than a whip, with 8 silicone falls that conduct electricity. While I’m probably best known in my circles as an electro-top, I also really enjoy topping for floggings, and I was really interested to see how the two combined. At the same time, I was super excited about how intense all the material I could find on the Electric Whip claimed it was — one of my partners is an extremely heavy bottom, and I’m always looking for ways to give them the kind of intensity they enjoy.

The Neon Wand Electric Whip Attachment is available for $50 from Good Vibes. It does require a Neon Wand (or potentially other system of violet wand if the socket size is the same), which Good Vibes has for $150. If you know for sure that you want to play with the Electric Whip, you can also buy the Obsidian Neon Wand Electrostim Intensity Kit — which includes the Neon Wand, the Electric Whip attachment, and the super intense Flex Capacitor attachment, but not any of the glass electrodes — for $187.99.

Personally, I am glad I’m getting the Electric Whip Attachment years after getting my Neon Wand, as this means I’ve had a lot of time to get used to topping with the Neon Wand, as well as get used to the sensation on myself in more mild form.

Using the Electric Whip Safely

All sex acts come with risk, and I’m not going to pretend electroplay isn’t particularly risky. Do not use my review alone as your source when it comes to engaging in electroplay safety — there’s a lot of resources out there, and I highly recommend doing your own research. If you can get your hands on a copy of the book Juice: Electricity for Pleasure and Pain, I’d highly recommend giving that a read!

Some quickfire safety rules are: no electricity above the waist (some people are willing to bend this for violet wands, but personally I am not), no electricity on metal piercings/plates/implants, no electricity on people with electronic or fluid implants (e.g. insulin pumps), avoid broken skin, avoid mucus membranes, and be careful of flammable products and textiles. Check your chords and other equipment before use, don’t do electroplay if you have seizures, start at a low setting, and never use electroplay devices if you or they are wet.

This is not a comprehensive list, so please do your own research before playing with electricity!

Intensity & Sensation

I’m not going to cut any corners — the Neon Wand Electric Whip Attachment is Mean with a capital M. While it’s intended for more gentle strokes than hard flogging, the electricity adds a really intense bite.

I’d generally consider myself a light-mid pain bottom, and I cannot stand the Electric Whip attachment on all but the very lightest of settings when it’s plugged directly into the Neon Wand. I also discovered that uh… it can burn hair. I’m quite hairy and enjoy being that way, so the smell of singed hair was not exactly an exciting one.

To be clear, this is not me being negative about the Electric Whip! For my heavier bottom partners, this thing is a nightmare come true in the best way. But I don’t want to pull my punches — it’s an intense toy. While I’m a light-mid bottom my pain tolerance is relatively good — I’ve been tattooed on the back of my knees and my ribs without too much trouble, and don’t find any of the standard electrodes that come with the Neon Wand to be Too Much, even on their highest settings — and the Whip Attachment was still a bit too much of a stingy fucker for me.

However, there are ways to play with it more gently! As well as directly plugging the Whip Attachment into the Neon Wand, you can also use the Power Tripper attachment. This means that the bottom basically conducts electricity, with the top holding the Electric Whip by the metal end and completing a circuit when they make contact. I found this definitely makes the sensation quite a bit milder. It’s still very stingy compared to the other fun/mean things I like using with my Power Tripper (various tinsel toys, metal pinwheels, etc), but it tones the intensity down to within my wheelhouse.

Topping with the Electric Whip

I was a little nervous about potential balance issues with the Electric Whip. With a normal flogger, you want it to be weighted so that the midpoint of that weight (or the balance point) is approximately where your hand sits. Obviously, this was unlikely to be something doable with the Electro Wand when plugged into the Neon Wand handle. There’s a lot of electronics that make the handle particularly heavy, and I was worried about the impact this would have on balance.

In honesty, the Electric Whip would be badly balanced… if it were a normal flogger. The way I top with this is very focused on singular soft flicks rather than repeated motions, and the weighted handle doesn’t feel like it has as much of an impact when used this way.

It helps that the falls are relatively short, so even with the weird balance it’s pretty easy to keep them under control. And they’re easier to keep control of when used for indirect play with the Power Tripper!

In terms of how it feels emotionally to top with the Electric Whip… it feels more like electro topping than flogger topping. What I enjoy about electroplay is getting to create intense stimulation while not being very physically taxed and remaining some kind of distance (and sense of superiority if we’re doing D/s) from my bottom. The Electric Whip definitely makes me feel that more than more physically grounded flogging topping.

Overall

I LOVE the Neon Wand Electric Whip Attachment. However, I have to warn that this toy does not pull its punches. For those new to electroplay, I’d recommend playing around with standard electrodes — like those that come with the standard Neon Wand — before venturing into the Electric Whip.

That said, jf you’ve already played around with electroplay and know you and/or your bottoms like to play heavy, I’d highly recommend the Neon Wand Electric Whip! It’s a mean piece of kit, at what I’d consider a very reasonable price point for specialist kink gear.
