Review: SUTIL Luxe & SUTIL Rich

I’ve been trying to experiment with lube a little more recently. While my go to lube for ages has been Sliquid, I’ve been trying out other brands too, like YES and Good Clean Love. SUTIL was actually next on my list of lubes to try out, but before I had bought some to try myself, Hathor, the company who produce it, reached out to me to offer me a sample to try.

Hathor sent me samples of two of their SUTIL products- SUTIL Luxe, and SUTIL Rich. They’re pretty similar, both being water based lubes made with natural ingredients. There are some differences in ingredients, taste, and consistency between the two, as well as a difference in price. Both SUTIL Luxe and SUTIL Rich are available in 2, 4, and 8 fluid ounce tubes, from $14.95 for SUTIL Luxe and from $15.95 for SUTIL Rich.

What I Look For In Lube:

Because everyone’s lube needs and preferences are different, I’d like to list what the things I look for in a lube are.

  • Compatibility with silicone. My partner and I use toys frequently and they’re mostly silicone toys
  • Suitability for anal. I really enjoy anal play, both partnered and solo
  • No glycerin. Too much of this sugar alcohol can lead to bacterial growth and yeast infections. This is something that all people with vulvas should be aware of, but it’s especially a concern for me because being on testosterone can make people more prone to yeast infections
  • Thick consistency. Even when we’re using lube for vaginal penetration rather than anal, I frequently fist my partner, and a thicker, more gel-like lube is great for this

Things I don’t particular look for are:

  • Compatibility with condoms. My partner and I are both pre-bottom[ref]I say ‘pre’ here because we both intend to get bottom surgery in the future[/ref] surgery trans guys, and we don’t have PIV sex that’s not with toys. While we do use condoms for dildos we use anally sometimes, at other times we just sanitise our toys afterwards
  • Added or heightened sensation. Think warming/cooling lubes

SUTIL Luxe

SUTIL Luxe is the first of the two lubes that SUTIL sent me. It has very little scent, but has a pretty bitter and unpleasant taste. The ingredients are:

Aqua, Propanediol* (Botanical Source), Hyaluronic Acid (Botanical Source), Nelumbo Nucifera Root Extract* (Lotus Root), Oat Beta Glucan*, Gluconolactone*, Sodium Benzoate*, Citric Acid.
(*Eco Certified)

I was initially a little sceptical of SUTIL Luxe due to its consistency. It’s quite a viscous lube, and runs off my fingers pretty easily. However, I ended up being super impressed. The viscosity of Luxe blends really well with my natural lubrication. It’s a really long lasting lube, taking ages to dry, and when it does dry there’s no feeling of tackyness left behind. It feels more like I’ve just used a moisturiser than anything else.

While I think SUTIL Luxe is an excellent lube, I think it’s not as well suited to the kinds of sex that I have as SUTIL Rich is. The thinner texture would be great for penis-in-vagina penetration or light fingering, but as I generally use textured toys with my partner and do heavy fisting, it’s not perfect for me. It is great for external stimulation however. I’ve really enjoyed applying it to my dick when using wand vibrators or penetrable toys.

The only thing I’d class as an actual negative from SUTIL Luxe is the taste. It has a super bitter taste, which is super unfortunate for me, as somebody who often switches between hands, toys, and oral during partnered sex.

SUTIL Rich

SUTIL Rich is the second lube that SUTIL sent me. It’s thicker than SUTIL Luxe, and includes ingredients that are considered aphrodisiacs. The ingredients are:

Aqua, Propanediol*(Zamea, botanical source), Hyaluronic Acid (Botanical source), Nelumbo Nucifera Root Extract* (Lotus Root), Epimedium Sagittatum (Horny Goat Weed) Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Zizyphus Jujuba Fruit Extract, Gluconolactone*, Sodium Benzoate* *Eco-Certified Ingredients

SUTIL Rich is a lot thicker than SUTIL Luxe, with a gel like consistency. It doesn’t really run- at one point I was able to hold a drop of it on the understand of my hand without it dripping at all. Even though it’s thicker than SUTIL Luxe, it still blends with natural lubrication pretty well.

The thickness of SUITIL Rich suits my preferences when it comes to sex much better than that of SUTIL Luxe. It’s great for anal, for more vigorous fingering, or for very textured toys. SUTIL Rich has actually become my favourite lube for vaginal fisting because of this consistency, and it’s become my go-to for anal play too.

Unfortunately, like with SUTIL Luxe, Rich has a pretty unpleasant taste. It’s not as bad as Luxe, but it’s still not pleasant. Additionally, I am a little sceptical of the aphrodisiac elements, however. Horny goat weed, lotus root, and ginseng are included in the ingredients as natural aphrodisiacs, but in practice I don’t think they’ve really done anything for me. Maybe I’m just aroused enough during sex that I don’t notice the boost, but I really don’t think they did anything for me.

Overall Thoughts

I definitely prefer SUTIL Rich to SUTIL Luxe, but that’s not from any fault in SUTIL Luxe. The thicker consistency of Rich just suits the kinds of sex I have more than Luxe does. The only real fault I can find with either of them is something they have in common, which is the taste.

Other than the taste, both lubes are excellent. They’re long lasting, mix well with natural lubrication, and don’t leave any kind of tacky residue. The ingredients are organic, moisturising, and skin-soothing. They’re both vulva and vagina safe, and SUTIL Rich is suitable for anal.

If you mostly want a lube for vaginal penetration with a penis or a not-particularly-textured dildo and you don’t have any issues with dryness or inflammation, I’d say go for SUTIL Luxe. SUTIL Rich is definitely better suited for anal, for those who have less natural lubrication, for people who use textured or larger toys, or for those who have issues with tissue tearing.

If you’re US based, you can buy SUTIL Luxe and Rich from SheVibe, from $14.95 for 60ml of SUTIL Luxe and from $15.95 for 60ml of SUTIL Rich

The only UK stockist I’ve found who carried SUTIL is Jo Divine, who carry SUTIL Luxe and Rich.
