January/February 2020 Mini-Reviews

While I do receive a lot of sex/kink/etc products in exchange for review, that doesn’t mean I don’t also purchase them with my own money. I floated the idea of doing brief mini-reviews of the products I buy myself on Instagram, and people seemed receptive, so I thought I’d try it out!

These products are ones I bought in January and February 2020, which were months where I bought an unusual amount of items! I’ll likely do shorter lists every 3-6 months if I continue this in the future.

Where possible, I’ve linked to where you can purchase these items. However, many of the items on this list were purchased at London Alternative Market (which is great and you should go to) and not all exhibitors have a way to purchase their wares online.

Kink Stuff

cane

Flick Stick- Trussed UK

I heavily favour canes when it comes to impact play, and I was on the lookout for one at LAM. I spotted the Flick Stick, and figured it was worth trying out at only £5. While it can be used as a cane, it can also (and I only realised this when looking up Trussed UK’s website) be used by pulling back the tip and letting go, flicking the end forward and into your bottom. I didn’t expect much in terms of marks, especially as I tend to play quite light, but the Flick Stick managed to produce some pretty nice bruises!

Bear Claw- The Kinky Emporium

Somebody I’ve been hooking up with jokingly complained about my nails being too short to scratch her at the end of January, and when I saw the Bear Claw at London Alternative Market, I knew I had to get it. And then I ended up getting two, partly because I wanted to have a spare, partly because there was a deal on for two, and partly because I wanted to goof about and pretend to be Wolverine. While I enjoy using the Bear Claw for really intense and long lasting scratch marks, it can also be used more gently, and is super comfy to hold.

rope3Green Rope (& Rope Oil)- Bear Bite Bondage

I feel like there’s very little to say here. It sure is rope, and it sure is green. The rope oil I bought alongside this isn’t really necessary, as the oils from your hands will keep rope soft and supple. However, I sometimes go for a while between rope sessions, and wanted to get some oil alongside my rope just in case. Plus it smells really nice.

Sex Toys

Godemiche Apprentice

toys

I actually also bought the Apprentice at LAM. My close friend/FWB bought their first harness at LAM and was buying their first harnessable dildo from the Godemiche stall when I spotted the Apprentice. It’s intended as a toy for beginners to strap-on anal sex[ref]I refuse to say pegging unironically[/ref], although that wasn’t the appeal for me. I do butt play quite often at the moment but the thing is, I’m lazy. I’m very lazy and I don’t want to have to stretch up for some of my bigger toys sometimes. I just want something in my butt with no or low effort.

I also have actually been using the Apprentice for vaginal play, although that wasn’t my intention when I bought it. I’ve really been having trouble with vaginal penetration lately, and while I don’t really care too much, I do miss the slightly more intense orgasms I have with something inserted. I don’t really wanna feel like I’m getting fucked in the front, but just having something there can be helpful. The Apprentice is skinny enough to not feel like it’s stretching me out and to not make me hyperaware of the fact I’m being penetrated, while being thick enough it actually makes an impact on my orgasms.

Sh! Steel Butt Plug with Diamante Handle

I’ve wanted to get an Njoy Pure Plug for a long time, but here’s the thing- they’re expensive, I’d never had a steel butt plug before, and I didn’t want to risk absolutely hating it. So I looked for cheaper alternatives, and found the Steel Butt Plug at Sh!. There are some differences- the handle of this plug is much larger than the Njoy Pure Plug, and I’m not really a fan of the diamante handle- but I’m very happy I made sure I was actually into steel plugs before splurging on an Njoy.

Books

The Ultimate Guide to Kink: BDSM, Role Play, and the Erotic Edge

book

This is one of the books I’ve seen suggested a lot in kink circles, so I figured it was time to actually give it a read. Each chapter is written by a different person, and there is a range of levels of intensity and content in them. Some chapters were too beginner-y for me (the caning/floggers/etc chapter, the vaginal fisting chapter), while some were on things I have no interest in (the chapter on tantra and the one on mindfuck), but most contained useful content- the chapters on piercing play and anal fisting were especially interesting to me. It’d be pretty easy to skip over content that you find uninteresting or triggering. Because the chapters are by different people, the jump between styles can be jarring, but there’s enough variety of content that you’re likely to find something useful and that you like in this anthology.

Other

balm

Horny Jar Clit Balm- bijoux indiscrets

I bought this mostly out of curiosity, as I’d never actually tried a clit balm before. I was honestly pretty sceptical about them, but thought it was worth at least giving them a chance. There’s a couple of other balms in the same line (Bad Day Killer and Sexting Balm), but I honestly could not tell you the difference between them from the packaging.

The experience was… interesting? I felt I had to use quite a lot of the balm because my anatomy is a lot larger than the average clit.

The sensation wasn’t anywhere near as fast as bijoux indiscrets claims, but it was definitely noticeable. It was warming rather than feeling too hot, and while I don’t think it made my orgasm any easier or stronger, I’m interested in the idea of using it in sensation play scenes.

Acqua Croccante Crunchy Mousse- Orgie

Speaking of sensation play, this mousse is the absolute fucking bomb. I love this stuff so much. Basically, it’s a foam that bubbles and crackles on the surface of the skin, sort of like popping candy in your mouth. Orgie does describe it as ‘effervescent’ but I don’t really see that, plus the word effervescent reminds me of the line about snails from Twilight and I crack up. There’s three different scent of this mousse, although do note that’s scent rather than flavour, as it’s not for consumption. I prefer the monoi version, as it’s not quite as cloyingly sweet as the strawberry, although I am alright with the sakura.

It’s not genital safe and not a sensation for everyone (my flatmate absolutely hates it), but I really love the feeling of this stuff on my skin. I actually stim with it just by myself, because I like it that much.
