Review: Wicked Aqua Blueberry Muffin Lube

Ok, it’s time for a confession. Sometimes I feel like a bad sex writer because I don’t do a lot of the classic ‘spice up your sex life’ things. I’ve never role-played as strangers who meet in a bar[ref]This is like, a Thing apparently?[/ref], I don’t really care for having sex outside a bedroom (with the exception of dungeons and rope studios), and I don’t really consume porn or erotica with my partners.

This feeling of inadequacy is, of course, nonsense. For one, I do plenty of filthy things that never make it to those lists. For another I’m not obliged to have the wildest filthiest sex just because I occasionally write about it on the internet. That said, flavoured lube is among the many ‘spicy’ listicle favourites that don’t really feature in my sex life, so receiving the Wicked Aqua Blueberry Muffin lubricant feels… kinda like a novelty? Which is wild, if only because it feels like such a tame thing to find novel.

Novelty aside, what did I think of the Wicked Aqua Blueberry Muffin Lube? Well, first I want to give some context and admit to the biases I brought to this review. I’m a bit of a lube brand loyalist—I use so much Sliquid I might as well buy it by the barrel. A lot of what I instinctively think lube ‘should be’ is informed by the fact Sliquid is my default, despite knowing both from my time in sex toy retail and just being a general sex nerd that lubes have a huge variety of textures and consistencies. I also, honestly, quite like the taste of oral sex, so flavoured lube has never really appealed from an ‘improve the taste’ perspective.

Know what I’m less into the taste of though? Silicone dicks. I love strap-on blowjobs (both giving and receiving), and while I love the feeling of having a silicone dick in my mouth, I usually find my mouth gets drier than it would with giving oral sex to standard issue genitals. Between that and the fact there’s no natural taste being concealed by the flavour of the lube, strap-on blowjobs are the perfect use case for flavoured lube for me, and what I ended up primarily using to test the Blueberry Muffin Lube.

The consistency of the Wicked Aqua Blueberry Muffin Lube (R) and Sliquid Sassy (L). The Wicked Aqua lube is noticeably thin.

It’s a good thing that I intended to use the Wicked Aqua Blueberry Muffin Lube for strap-on blowjobs, because some of its ingredients mean I wouldn’t recommend it for vulva or vaginal use. Glycerin in lube tends to trigger yeast infections for me, and while every body is different and not everybody will get an infection as the result, it’s still not something I want to risk. That said, the Blueberry Muffin Lube is water-based, so it’s compatible with latex barriers like dental dams, if that’s a solution that would work for you.

I actually had to double-check that the Blueberry Muffin Lube was water-based after first trying it out, because it has a very thin consistency. I’d describe it as almost like silicone-based lubes in consistency, only more oily feeling on the hands. This did mean it didn’t drip anywhere, but I do think it’s a texture that might turn some people off—the partner I first used the Blueberry Muffin Lube with described it as ‘greasy’, which isn’t the sexiest word in the world. Your milage may vary though— I didn’t mind the consistency, even if it was a little odd, and did like that it meant the lube didn’t feel greasy or tacky at any point, even after oral sex.

Finally though, the taste. Does the Wicked Aqua Blueberry Muffin Lube actually taste like blueberry muffins? And my answer to that is… a vague hand-wave? If I’m paying attention, it is very obvious that it’s blueberry flavour and not blueberry, but there is a little hint of something that means it does sort-of taste like a blueberry muffin specifically rather than just blueberry. When I worked in sex toy retail, we occasionally made cocktails with flavoured lubes, and part of me really wants to try that with this lube, and that’s probably one of the weirder bits of praise I’ve given to anything on this blog, but it is praise.

So am I sold on flavoured lubes, and if so am I sold on the Wicked Aqua Blueberry Muffin Lube specifically? I think it’s a very specific lube, too thin to be useful for penetrative sex, and that’s with the glycerine issue aside. That said, if you’re not a fan of the taste of oral sex (on anything that isn’t a vulva, or are willing to use a dental dam on vulvas), it works really well for that, never feeling tacky or sticky. If you want a flavoured lube that’s thicker or vaginal/vulva safe, the Sliquid Swirl lubes are probably a better product for you, but if those preferences aren’t yours, I’d really recommend the Wicked Aqua Blueberry Muffin Lube! It’s a sweet taste without being overpowering, an almost perfect consistency for oral sex, and somehow manages to taste like a muffin specifically? Which is something I’m still not over.
