Review: Phreak Lotus Wand Topper

A lot of people have called the Magic Wand the ‘Cadillac of vibrators’ over the years. Personally, I think this isn’t true. The Magic Wand (and other wand vibrators like it) aren’t Cadillacs, they’re the hot rods of the vibrator world— big, powerful, and loud.

Also, they are extremely customisable.

While good wand vibrators are pretty powerful and often deliver wonderful rumbly vibrations, but in a very particular way—broad and external. To close that gap (and allow for one vibrator to be used in multiple ways), attachments for wand vibrators are pretty common. While some are brand specific, a lot fit standard wand head sizes, and can offer a wide range of ways to enjoy a wand’s vibrators. Want something phallic? There’s a wand attachment for that! Dual stimulation? Texture? Anal bead-like stimulation? There’s attachments for that too! And if you want g-spot stimulation, there’s so many options.

I was drawn to the Lotus Wand Topper from Phreak (who also make fantasy dildos) among the many options for a few reason. The first is it still keeps a wand a primarily external toy, which is my preference as I don’t generally like internal vibrations (or vaginal penetration in general). While it left my wands still external-only, the layered petal shape seemed like it’d suit a bunch of different use cases, providing texture to grind on as well as pinpoint stimulation. It also seemed it’d be suited well to scissoring, which is one of my favourite things to use wand vibrators for. I was also super curious to see if I could use it as a silicone grinder, even without a wand inserted into it.

The Phreak Lotus Wand Topper

Phreak, like a lot of fantasy toy companies, offer a ton of customisation especially around silicone colour and firmness. SheVibe currently only stocks one version of the Lotus Wand Topper, which comes in a really lovely pink/yellow/white combination called ‘Peach Fizz’. The Lotus Wand Topper also has a couple of options for size on Phreak’s on website— while this doesn’t change the look of the lotus itself, it does mean that it can fit a variety of wand sizes.

That said, I tried the Lotus that SheVibe send me on multiple wands, and found it only didn’t fit on very odd shaped ones or mini wands. It was completely fine for my Doxy, purple Lovehoney Wand (which is discontinued but tbh is almost completely identical to the full sized Le Wand), Zalo Kyro, and We-Vibe Wand. It didn’t fit my Le Wand Petite, but I expected that given quite how mini the Le Wand Petite is. Unless you have a mini or otherwise oddly shaped wand vibrator, it should be fine.

I can’t actually find the Peach Fizz colouration anywhere on Phreak’s website, which is a shame because it’s really lovely! It’s not a colour combination I would have thought of, but it’s very fun and bright and bubbly. I love it, and I’m absolutely going to bear this combination in mind next time I’m picking fantasy toy colours.

Pinpoint Stimulation

One of the benefits of having reviewed so many toys over the years is that I have a really good grasp on what works for me and my body. For vibrators, I like pinpoint, rumbly, external vibrations. While I do sometimes also like powerful, rumbly, broad stimulations (especially if I’m fucking a partner who I’m new with, as I need stimulation on a very specific place on my dick with pinpoint vibrations), pinpoint is king for me.

One of the things I was hoping for with the Lotus was that the petals on the edge of the flower would work well at turning the broader vibrations of my wands into more pinpoint stimulation. The outer petals aren’t symmetrical or all alike—with some cast almost entirely connected to the ‘body’ of the toy, while others have a bit more freedom of movement—so I was excited to experiment with them.

It works… well, really well actually! I still definitely prefer my Zalo Bess, but this works really well as a hack. The pointed tips transmit rumbly vibrations pretty well, with only a slight dulling of intensity from the vibrations having to travel through silicone.

There is a lot of fluttering rather than vibration, and it does have the tendency to not move as much with pressure. This is something I found I didn’t like about my Zumio, so while I’m not thrilled about it, the petal tips do move fast enough that I still enjoy the sensation. It actually feels very similar to the Fun Factory Volta, and I use it in a very similar way, with the tip of one point touching the underside of my clit.

The lack of ability to press down with pressure does mean I don’t like using a wand and the Lotus as much as I love my Bess, but it’s pretty damn good.

Grinding Texture

One way I like to use wands (aside from scissoring or when I don’t want to do an anatomy lesson with a new partner) is grinding. Toys specifically meant for grinding have become much more common than they once were and I love that, but my first experience with grinding on toys was with wands. Now knowing that I really like texture on grinding toys, I was hopeful that the Lotus would bring that to my first grinding love, as well as allow for grinding to be combined with vibration.

And yeah, it absolutely rules. I did do something similar back in the day by turning TENGA Eggs inside out and putting them on a wand head, but the Lotus is worlds better. As I said earlier, the flower shape isn’t symmetrical and the petals point out from the main body to different degrees, so there’s a lovely range of texture. There’s clusters of more pointed petals, flatter areas, and areas where the two meet.

Phreak do offer firmness options if you buy from them, but the medium firmness honestly works so well. There’s some give, but not enough that the smaller, thinner parts of petals are too soft. The medium firmness is firmer than I tend to like insertable toys, at a A04-06 shore, and it is significantly firmer than the TPE of the TENGA Eggs I used to hack, but it really does work here.

Of course, while I liked combining grinding texture with vibrations, I was curious to see if the Lotus would hold up when it isn’t combined with a wand vibrator. Which brings us to…

Grinding Without A Wand

The reason I wasn’t sure if the Lotus would hold up as a grinding toy on its own is entirely because of the fact it has a cavity in the middle. I know that flower/petal-like grinding toys work, having seen the Uberrime Rosae, but what I didn’t know is if the Lotus would simply collapse in on itself under the pressure of being humped. And you know, I wouldn’t have been too mad if it did, because being used without a wand inserted into it isn’t what the Lotus was designed to do.

It does work though, with some caveats. Because of the air trapped in the cavity, if you push down with a lot of force, the Lotus does deform slightly outwards. This is worse if the Lotus isn’t placed in a way that means the whole opening to the cavity is covered. But even with some slight deforming, it does still have enough resistance that I enjoy grinding on it, and this only happens if I push down with a lot of pressure.

The cavity doesn’t behave so well if its hole isn’t covered, which is a shame. If I’m feeling lazy, I like to lie on my back and rub my Alia against my vulva, and while I can sort of do the same with the Lotus, it doesn’t work out quite so well. Grasping it in a way that covers the hole feels awkward and makes my fingers ache a bit, but not covering it means there’s just a bit too much give for my taste. The BumpHer dealt with this by having its stretchable hole (I’m so sorry—I genuinely don’t know what else to call it) be collapsible into a flat shape, but this isn’t possible with the Lotus. It is—in fairness—still workable, but not ideal. But also this is absolutely not what the Lotus was created and marketed for, so I’m not mad about it.

Overall

Obviously, if you have a non-standard size wand (which SheVibe defines as having a head 2.25″ to 2.38” wide), the Lotus I received won’t fit your needs. However, if you do have a wand that’d fit it, it’s a really great addition in terms of adding different kinds of sensation. And, tbh, even if you don’t own a wand the right size, I honestly would recommend it as a grinding toy. While it’s not perfect, it is slightly cheaper than my beloved Alia and—imo—worth it if you know you’re only looking for a grinding toy and not a strap-on base.

I really like the Lotus Wand Topper! It translates the rumbly power of a wand into stimulation that suits my preferences a bit more, combines textured grinding with vibration, and holds up really well as a grinding toy on its own!
