Review: Womanizer Next

The first time I had a lifting session with my personal trainer, my breathing was so badly controlled that at one point I was sure I was actually about to pass out. I tell you this not because I want you to laugh at my misfortune, but because the Womanizer Next was so intense the first time I used it that I had a similar lack-of-breath-control experience. This thing is good.

The Womanizer Next

The Womanizer Next is the newest product from Womanizer. I was lucky enough to receive it a few weeks before its release was public, and I’ve been having a ton of fun playing with it. It’s an air pulsation toy — while some people call toys of this kind ‘suction toys’, they don’t deliver true suction, and instead pulsate air towards the clitoris.

This toy comes in three colours — black, purple, and the wonderful sage shade that I received for review. Rechargeable and waterproof, the Womanizer Next is also really well designed ergonomically. The long handle makes it easier to position between bodies during partnered sex than rounder shapes, and also makes it easier to hold in place for those with larger bodies.

Sizing & Anatomy

The Womanizer line has always had interchangeable nozzle options, allowing them to fit a wide range of anatomies. My Womanizer Classic 2 came with an Advent Calendar, so didn’t have any additional nozzles included. The Womanizer Next, however, came with an additional nozzle, which meant I got to try out a couple of options.

In case you’re new to the blog, this was something I was particularly interested in as I’m transmasculine and on testosterone HRT. This means my clit is significantly above average size — it’s a couple of inches long when I’m very aroused. I have run into fit problems with air pulsation (/‘suction’) toys before, so I was interested to see what difference the two nozzles would make.

The two sizes included are a small and a medium, although the size difference isn’t super obvious visually. What is clearly different between the two, however, is the shape. The medium has much more rounded and thicker edges, while the small has narrower edges and a bit of a ‘steeper’ feel.

Regardless of which nozzle I used, I found the sizing a mid-point in terms of fit to my body. While I was able to get the head of my clit into the nozzles comfortably (which is not a bar that all air pulsation toys I’ve reviewed have passed), I couldn’t fit it around my whole clitoris in the way that these toys are designed to sit on cis women. This doesn’t mean I couldn’t get off, just that the sensations were even more concentrated on my anatomy than they would be the average user.

The Controls/Settings

I don’t think I’ve ever had a vibrator that gives me as much control as the Womanizer Next does, especially one that doesn’t require an app for fine-tuned control. As well as the classic intensity control (which has a total of 14 options), the Womanizer Next also has a button for ‘Climax Control’. This changes between three levels of depth when it comes to sensation, from a surface level buzz to a deep-reaching rumble.

This is a really genuinely innovative feature, and one I’m not sure I’ve ever seen before. I talk a lot about buzzy vs rumbly vibrations on this blog, and while I’m experienced enough with toys I know what I like, I recognise that isn’t the case for everyone. The Womanizer Next’s ability to provide vibrations across the buzzy-rumbly spectrum is something that really excites me, and I can see a ton of potential for. New to toys and not quite sure what works for you yet? In a relationship with a partner with very different preferences from you, but want to invest in a high-end toy together rather than multiple cheaper toys? The Womanizer Next is basically the only toy I’ve come across with enough versatility that I’d recommend it there.

In terms of the 14 settings, the jumps between settings are pretty smooth, while also offering a wide range of intensities. I personally barely feel anything on the lower end of the spectrum, but do find the higher end to be a bit too intense, particularly if I’m on Climax Control setting 3. However, the separate up and down buttons for intensity means it’s very easy to go back down a level if I find I’ve overestimated what my body will enjoy.

The lowest setting is also less intense than the other Womanizer model I’ve tried. This is due to a change in the technology used for the pulsation. Previous Womanizer models have used what Womanizer has dubbed ‘Pleasure Air’, which sends a minimum of 20 pulses per second. The technology on the Womanizer Next — dubbed 3D Pleasure Air — can pulse at just 3 pulses per second.

While I personally don’t get much out of the lower end, I am aware that Womanizer have a reputation for being Very Intense. I can see what they were going for with these new changes — making a Womanizer model that’s more accessible to people who prefer gentler stimulation, without turning off those who like the more intense sensations. Generally, I’ve found toys that try to please everyone in the sex toy industry end up being mid at both functions at best and disappointing everyone at worst, but here… I really think Womanizer have pulled it off.

The Orgasms

I’m not going to shy away from it — the orgasms the Womanizer Next gives me are really good. I put a lot of vibrators up against my junk, and while I orgasm from most of them, I’ve gotten used to my work orgasms being very shallow ones, focused around my junk only. Even outside of blogging, I very rarely have full body orgasms in general — HRT does often change how people experience orgasms, and mine are usually far more localised and similar to those of a cis man. While I can have more full-body kinds of orgasms, it usually takes a lot of edging and working up to.

The Womanizer Next reliably gives me full-body orgasms, with no effort on my part. And if that wasn’t praise enough, I’m normally silent when I orgasm, but most of the time find I vocalise when coming with the Womanizer Next. The orgasms from it are just Good.

Smart Silence & Afterglow

A feature that is new to me (although previous Womanizer models have used it) is the ‘smart silence’ feature. Regardless of setting, the Womanizer Next will only actually produce air pulsation if it senses something pressed in or around the nozzle, going quiet the rest of the time. What this means is — for example — if you suddenly pull the toy away after orgasming, it will stop. Settings are preserved, so you won’t need to find the right combination if you decide you want to use the Womanizer Next again, but the sound won’t continue uninterrupted in the meantime.

This is a good feature given the Womanizer Next is…. not quiet. Womanizer have said they’ve updated their technology to make the Next quieter than other Womanizer models. While this may be true it’s still not truly quiet, especially on the higher end of the settings. It would be even louder if the pulsation didn’t cut off when there’s not tissue surrounding the nozzle, which is at least some consideration, but the sound does travel quite far. This isn’t something that bothers me personally (I live with one of my partners and no flatmates), but it’s something to take into consideration.

Afterglow is another setting that is common among Womanizer’s models, and is included in the Womanizer Next. This reduces the intensity of the toy right after orgasm, allowing users to keep the toy on their body rather than having to sharply pull away. I will confess I do tend to instinctively pull toys away after I orgasm, so testing this was a bit of a challenge. When I did manage to overpower my habits, this Afterglow feature was very reliable.

Overall

So, here we come to the price. The Womanizer Next is very much a luxury product, with a price tag to match. It costs £199, compared to the £119.99 of my other Womanizer model, the Classic 2. I think it’s fair if this pushes it out of your price range.

For me, is there a significant difference between the two? Yes, for sure. The Womanizer Next outperforms the Classic 2 with no contest. The orgasms I get feel more intense and I love having more control over the settings. That level of control also means it’s a far more versatile toy, offering sensation across the buzzy-rumbly spectrum. It may be my first review of the year, but I already feel the Womanizer Next is a strong contender for my Top 10 of 2024.
