Review: Strange Bedfellas Fornax 3.0

I’ve been really lusting after fantasy dildos this year, including the gorgeous fantasy creations of Strange Bedfellas. Because of the gorgeous colours and pours, and really imaginative monster inspired designs, several Strange Bedfellas toys had been on my toy wishlist well before I reached out to Meesh (who designs, sculpts, and pours the toys at Strange Bedfellas) to see if they’d be interested in working together. Meesh was super lovely, and sent me two toys for review, as well as some amazing stickers and adorable Little Fellas squishies.

standingup.pngOne of those toys (and the one I’m reviewing today) is Fornax 3.0. Fornax is available in three sizes, and can be ordered in three firmnesses. I ordered a small Fornax in medium firmness (about 00-50 shore). The small Fornax has a total length of 6.75 inches, 5.5 of which are insertable. It has a broad head with a diameter of 1.25 inches, a broader textured shaft with a diameter of 1.75 inches at its widest point, and an oval knot with a maximum diameter of 2 inches. Fornax’s low-poly look base is flared, with a diameter of 3 inches, making Fornax suitable for anal use and (at least in theory) usable in a harness. Fornax also comes in a medium and large size option- the medium has a total length of 8 inches, insertable length of 6.5 inches, and widest knot diameter of 2.4 inches, and the large has a total length of 9.25 inches, insertable length of 7.5 inches, and widest knot diameter of 2.9 inches.

Like the other toys in Strange Bedfellas’ offerings, Fornax has a little dating profile that explains some of the concept behind the toy. Not all the dildos have characters who use he/him pronouns- Fornax uses they/them pronouns- which is something I’m super excited to see! Fornax’s character is an artificially digitized construct, and this and the low-poly look of the base were part of the inspiration behind the colour schemed I requested. I was really reminded of the aesthetic of the Deus Ex games, particularly Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and so asked Meesh to pour a black and gold marble inspired by them. The marble is gorgeous, and I especially love that the particularly large blob of gold on the head almost highlights it. The gold is bright and shiny, and both the black and gold silicone has glitter mixed in with it, which gleams beautifully. The silicone quality is superb- I can’t see any kind of small minor aesthetic defects, like printer marks, or small air bubbles, or roughly cut edges that I expect to see (and don’t mind) on indie fantasy toys. The silicone surface is flawless and smooth, and the whole toy looks gorgeous.

flower.pngThe medium firmness has a lot of squish to it, which definitely worked for me due to the texture and knot size. The knot on Fornax is larger and rounder than the other knotted toy I’ve tried before (the Beowulf), and I think I would have had more trouble taking it in a firmer silicone. The texture isn’t uncomfortable intense, but I still definitely feel it in use. I love being able to feel the variations in girth between different parts of Fornax’s shaft, even before I get to the knot. The broad rounded head, followed by the curves of the slightly bulging ridged shaft make Fornax feel bigger in use than it actually is, and I’m glad I asked for a small rather than a medium.

In a medium firmness, the knot is noticeable but not uncomfortable, and the thin neck between the base and the knot (that resembles wires or cables) makes Fornax really well suited for plugging. I mostly used Fornax vaginally, although it is suitable for anal use, and it definitely feels like it was designed with vaginal use in mind, or at least in consideration. With some of the fantasy toys I’ve tried, I get the impression that they’re primarily made for anal use with users with vaginas as mostly an afterthought. So it’s nice to have a fantasy toy that genuinely feels like it was made with bodies like mine in mind!

The straight shaft means I don’t really get much g-spot stimulation from thrusting Fornax, so instead the main appeal is the feeling of fullness that it provides. The texture makes the whole toy feel incredibly weighty, and the changing thickness down the shaft means that I feel like I’m being stretched out when I use Fornax, even if the actual size of it isn’t particularly huge. The feeling of the knot suddenly popping inside me is incredible for this. The large base is really good as a base to hold on to- even with lubed up hands it’s easy to have a steady grip on as I push Fornax into myself. And because the base isn’t perfectly round, it isn’t anywhere near as much of a vulva hog as I originally feared- I can use a whole range of vibrators on my dick while Fornax is inside my cunt without them getting in the way of each other.

base.pngThe only non-positive thing I have to say about my Fornax is that it isn’t well suited for harness use. The thin neck between the base and knot is a little too thin to be stable, and when I did try putting my Fornax in a harness, it was super wobbly. The shape of Fornax really works for my teratophilia kink, so it is a little annoying it doesn’t work well with harnesses, because I would use it in so much monster role-play if it was. This is, however, definitely because my Fornax is in medium firmness- a Fornax in firm might not have the same issue, and be more suited for strap-on play. But if you’re looking for a toy to put in a harness, a Fornax in medium or soft firmness is probably not for you.

Despite this, Fornax is probably my favourite fantasy dildo (potentially tied with the Ziq, also from Strange Bedfellas), and definitely my favourite of the knotted dildos I’ve tried. My Fornax’s size, firmness, and texture is perfect for when i want to feel stretched and full, while still having access to my dick for external stimulation. And hell- if I can’t use a harness, I can always fuck my partners with Fornax by hand, especially with the easy to grasp base. Strange Bedfellas’ craftsmanship is beyond incredible, and has honestly set a new standard for toys for me.
