Review: Colours Pride Medium Silicone Butt Plug

It’s pride month, and as a known gay perv, I am very excited to use that as an excuse to review a butt plug that comes in the colours of the rainbow pride flag. I’m a sucker for a pride flag coloured sex toy (I wrote a whole post about them last year), and while I definitely feel that the rainbow flag is a much safer choice than some of the more niche flags, I still definitely appreciate a good rainbow flag toy. Plus, given the fact I’m going through a little questioning period about my sexuality, it’s nice to have a pride flag that will always be mine no matter what.

in_hand_2The Colours Pride Edition Silicone Butt Plug that I own is in size medium, with a mini and small option also available. The difference between the mini and small sizes is length, while the medium is a little thicker as well as being longer- the mini size has an insertable length of 2.5 inches and a width of 1 inch at its widest, the small has an insertable length of 3 inches and again a width of 1 inch, and the medium has an insertable length of 4 inches and a width of 1.5 inches. I’d describe myself as an anal intermediate, and the medium size plus is on the larger end of what I can take without any serious warm up- I can quickly finger myself and then slide it in without much issue. If you’re new to anal play or just have a preference for smaller toys, definitely check out the small and medium size versions of this plug. Colours also produces rainbow flag dildos, with both a non-phallic option and phallic options available in small, medium, and large sizes.

suction_cupThe Colours Pride plug has a very classic butt plug shape, with a cone like taper to its body, thin neck, and flared base. The flared base here is round rather than a T-bar shape, which isn’t generally my preference when it comes to plugs, but I can’t complain about too much. While I generally don’t enjoy wearing round based plugs for long, the base here is still small enough that it’s not noticeably uncomfortable between my buttcheeks, while being large enough compared to the neck and body of the plug I don’t feel the plug is at risk of slipping into my butt entirely. There is a suction cup at the base of the plug, although personally I have never seen the point of suction cups on butt plugs- I wear plugs rather than ride them, so a suction cup doesn’t really do anything for me.

plugBut the fact that the Pride Plug is a classic shape doesn’t mean it doesn’t pull this off really well! I have a lot of opinions when it comes to plug design, from how dramatic I want the tip of the plug’s taper to be to what distance I want between the body and the base. It’s quite easy for even a classically shaped plug to be a miss for me, but the Pride Plug doesn’t have any of the easy shortcomings I tend to notice. The tip is rounded enough for it to be comfortable to wear and sit on, while being tapered enough that insertion is easy. The angle of the body’s overall taper is gentle and comfortable, and even if the base isn’t my preferred shape, it’s wider that the widest point of the plug’s body, meaning I trust it to actually function as a base.

One thing I tend to notice with plugs and I was really pleasantly surprised by the Pride Plug on is the size of the neck. Choosing how thick a plug’s neck is can be a difficult balancing act- too thick and it doesn’t function as a neck, and the plug will come right out (as is the case with some other NS Novelties plugs I’ve tried). Too thin however, and the lack of taper between the thin neck and thick body will make removing the plug difficult or painful. Even the most classically shaped butt plugs can win my disapproval this way, so the fact the Pride Plug managed to get close to the perfect balance on this is definitely noteworthy!

The Pride Plug is a very classical straight plug shape, so if you’re looking for targeted prostate stimulation, it’s not the plug for you- I’d suggest checking out specifically designed prostate massagers instead. But if what you want is just a straight shaped plug, I can’t fail the Colours Pride Medium Silicone Butt Plug. NS Novelties does offer other colour options for slightly cheaper if you’re not totally married to a rainbow colour scheme, but personally I really like pride colours on sex toys and am willing to pay extra for them. And even with the little extra for the colour scheme, these plugs are still affordable, with all size options available for under $34.
