Review: Sh! Thigh Strap On Harness

I reviewed the Super Strap On Harness from Sh! Back in February, and I’m really excited to review another harness from them—the Thigh Strap On Harness. Like the Super Strap On Harness, it’s made in-house by Sh!, and comes in multiple colours, including baby blue, red, hot pink, purple, and black. I’ve wanted a leather thigh harness for a really long time, and I’m really excited about getting to have one in my hands!

What Are Thigh Harnesses For?

One question I get when I give my whole ‘introduction to strap-ons’ talk for friends (and yes, I am that friend) is people wondering what the point of harnesses that aren’t traditional crotch harnesses is. And I get why—a lot of the cultural narrative we have around strap-ons is that they’re intended to ‘replace’ or ‘imitate’ permanently attached cocks (and for some people that certainly is the appeal, and there’s no shame in that). However, I’m very much a proponent of seeing strap-on sex as its own thing—a type of penetrative sex that doesn’t require the top to have any particular anatomy, reduces the pressure of trying to get or maintain an erection, and allows for more variety of sensations, as you can use almost any flared base dildo with a harness. Thigh strap-on harness have all the benefits of standard harnesses, with the addition that they allow for a greater variety of positioning, leave the wearer’s genitals untouched, and don’t require as much motion as standard strap-on sex does. A lot of people also really enjoy grinding on thighs during sex, and a thigh harness can feel like a natural way to extend and expand the kinds of sex they’re already having.

The Thigh Strap On Harness’ Leather

Listen, you knew this section was coming. There will be a day when I stop including how sexy I find leather in a review of a leather product, but today is not that day. While the strap of the Sh! Thigh Strap On Harness is elastic (which I’ll talk about in a sec), the main body is made of two layers of leather, and it smells heavenly. I do think the stitching and edging could be a bit neater—in places the edging looks a bit raw and exposed—but I don’t have any complaints other than that.

Wearing & Using The Thigh Strap On Harness

The Sh! Thigh Strap On Harness is exceptionally easy to put on. The elastic goes around the wearer’s leg before being fastened in place, either with velcro or by going through the D-rings. On the subject of that elastic, it’s time for my one main criticism of this harness.

I, initially, thought that the only way to fasten this harness was to use the velcro, and while I can do this around my thighs, I am a big guy and it’s a little uncomfortable. It’s entirely on me that I didn’t realise that the two D rings could be used to fasten the harness, despite the fact this is how fastenings worked on the Super Strap-On Harness I previously reviewed for Sh!, but I feel like there has to be somebody out there as stupid as me who also doesn’t realise this. That said, I do think the D-ring fastenings don’t work quite as well as the velcro, or the D-ring fastenings on the Super Strap-On Harness for that matter. Because the strap is elastic, it’s really hard to maintain tension in the same way I would with leather, and the harness as a whole feels less secure in place than it does with the velcro. I do think it’s reasonably fair to call this ‘one sized fits most’, as it can fit thighs up to approximately 22 inches (this is very approximate— I measured and did some maths), but I think it could benefit from sizing options that allow people of various body shapes and sizes to take full advantage of how stable the velcro makes it.

Compared To The SportSheets Thigh Harness

So, unlike conventional strap-on harnesses, I actually only have one thigh harness— the SportSheets Thigh Harness—so that’s my main point of comparison. I’m aware there are other thigh-harnesses out there (I’ve been lusting after both the Aslan Leather Buckling Thigh Harness and Unicorn Collaborators Thigh Harness for some time), but I can’t currently say anything about how the Sh! Thigh Strap On Harness compares to them.

Unlike the Sh! harness, the SportSheets harness is made of neoprene rather than leather. While this is definitely a plus for some people (e.g. Vegans, people who want to sanitise harnesses between partners, etc), for me… well, I wrote a whole section on the leather in this harness, I feel like it’s clear what my thoughts on leather are. The only fastening option on the SportSheets harness is velcro—which does mean that it feels a bit more stable than the Sh! harness when it’s using the D-rings. However, as somebody with thick thighs, it’s actually quite a bit more uncomfortable. Only a little bit of velcro holds onto the harness, and the rest of the velcro on the straps sits directly on my skin.

The O-ring on the SportSheets harness also has absolutely no stretch to it. While there’s a hard upper limit for dildo thickness with the Sh! harness, it’s significantly larger than the SportSheets, and I can fit most of my non-large dildos in it (and tbf, what I count as large is very large to many people). Some of what I would consider my medium thickness dildos don’t make it into the SportSheets harness, while they fit very easily and comfortably in the Sh! harness.

While I do find the SportSheets Thigh Harness feels more stable, the Sh! harness is more comfortable and can also hold more of my dildos. I do think the easy washability of neoprene is a consideration if you’re planning to use a thigh harness with multiple partners (who aren’t fluid bonded to each other), but for me this isn’t really a big deal. Overall, despite issues with keeping tension in the elastic when using the D-rings to hold it in place, I definitely prefer the Sh! harness over the SportsSheets one.

Overall

I do think the Sh! Thigh Strap On Harness could benefit either from multiple sizes or changing the elastic part to neoprene (leather is also an option, although it would increase the cost of the harness), as this would do away with the instability than can arise from threading the elastic through the D-rings to fasten it. However, if you’re skinnier than me, that’s not going to be as much of an issue (and tbh, even at my size I can use the velcro, it’s just a little tight).

It’s a lot more large dildo friendly than my other thigh harness (it can hold dildos with up with a 2 inch diameter, compared to ~1.5 for the SportSheets harness), and—quite frankly—feels a lot sexier to wear! I am really interested to see if it still holds up well after I have a few different harnesses to compare it to. My take as it stands now though is that the Sh! Thigh Strap On Harness may not be perfect, but it is easy to get on, comfortable to wear, and excellent for quickies, which is exactly what I want from a thigh harness.
