Review: Hankey’s Toys XS Minotaur

So I have a thing for minotaurs. I romanced Iron Bull in Dragon Age: Inquisition, will loyally play minotaurs in any D&D campaign where my Dungeon Master will let me, have read a huge amount of Asterius focused Hades fanfic, and am a big fan of the smutty romance book Morning Glory Milking Farm. I’m very much the audience for Hankey’s Minotaur Dildo, and my enthusiasm did not wane when the toy arrived.

Design wise, the Minotaur dildo strikes a good balance between realistic and fantasy dildo elements (befitting of the creature it’s named after). The balls are relatively normal looking, and the shaft would be mostly human-looking if not for a few specific features. There’s a ring around the middle of the shaft (where the shaft is actually at its thickest), as well as a flared and slightly pointed head. There’s loads of detailing here, from wrinkly skin and detailed foreskin to smaller veins. It’s less out there than the detailing and design of the Alien Breeder, but it is equally wonderfully designed.

Sizes, Customisation, and Options

Hankey’s Toys leans towards offering big dildos. Because of this (and because I intended to mostly be using my Minotaur with partners who prefer vaginal sex), I actually chose the Xtra Small Minotaur rather than one of its four standard sizes. I do want to emphasise that this is ‘xtra small’ by Hankey’s Toys’ standards — the XS Minotaur still has a total overall length of 9 inches, insertable length of 6.75 inches, and maximum circumference of 7.75 inches. It is a chunky bit of silicone.

Regardless of if you choose an Xtra Small Minotaur or one in Medium, Large, XXL, or XXXL, most of the same customisation options are available to you. The only option that’s exclusive to the non XS Minotaur is the option for a Vac-U-Hole attachment, allowing the toy to be used with Vac-U-Lock attachments like strap-on harnesses. This is something I would like to see on some XS models where size makes it possible, but I did in practice find I was able to strap-on the Minotaur without needing one (more on this later).

Colour and silicone firmness are still customisable on even the Xtra Small Minotaur. Because of the heavy texturing, I opted for a slightly softer silicone upgrade of 40% soft. I was a little nervous that a soft silicone on a XS toy might be a bit too soft, but it works really well. My Minotaur is even able to stand up straight by itself, which isn’t always the case for softer toys.

For colour, I chose bubblegum pink, partly because this is one of the colours that Hankey’s Toys offers on their silicone dildos that I haven’t seen in person before, but honestly mostly just because I thought it would be fun and camp.

In total, my customisations would result in a dildo that cost $81.90, although pricing may vary — when playing with configurations to try and make the most expensive Minotaur I could, I ended up with one costing $298.75, to give you some idea.

Vaginal Use

So, in all honesty, while I was most hyped for using this vaginally topping, it did not work very well for me on the receiving end. The pronounced head results in a ‘popping’ sensation as it goes in, and while this enjoyable, when pushing further in that pronounced flared head feels like it’s being ‘hooked’ on my pubic bone.

As a caveat, this is a very anatomy specific thing. The partner who I used the Minotaur with (who also has a vagina) actually really liked the flared end. He also didn’t describe any feeling of ‘hooking’ behind the pubic bone in the same way, so I do think this is very much a me thing. However, it was enough of a setback that I didn’t personally enjoy the Minotaur vaginally.

I’m honestly most annoyed about that because it means the things I do like don’t have time to shine. The 40% soft feels exactly right for the Minotaur for me — squishy enough that the texture doesn’t feel grating, but not with enough give that it doesn’t feel really thick and filling. It’s definitely at the top end of what I can take and requires a lot of warming up to, but that adds to the stretching/filling.

Anal Use

So that flared head didn’t work out vaginally for me, but I had no such issues anally, and found the popping sensation of the flared head entering me really nice, with no caveats.

I was initially a little nervous that the choice of 40% soft silicone rather than 75% soft or medium might make the Minotaur a little difficult to insert, as has been the case with other soft toys I’ve used anally. It still would have been worth it for me, as I prefer soft toys anally once they’re actually inserted and am fine to wrestle a little bit to get it in. But the comparative ease of inserting the Minotaur was a really welcome surprise.

Another welcome surprise was how easy the Minotaur worked for riding. Because of its softness, I wasn’t sure if the dildo would be able to stand upright on its flat base without support. However, I found I didn’t have any issues with this at all. While I’m not huge on riding dildos anally and tended to prefer working it in myself while lying down, it definitely adds versatility I was not expecting from my silicone choices.

Strap-On Use

Speaking of surprising versatility, I was not expecting the Minotaur to be strap-on suitable at all. In fact, my initial notes from after opening it were that I wish there was an option to add a Vac-U-Lock hole to the XS Minotaur in a way there is the larger sizes. But then I remembered I actually do own a harness made for large toys that probably had a ring large enough for the Minotaur — the Babes N Horny Genet.

Turns out not only does it fit, but the two are a really good match for each other, and I really enjoy wearing the Minotaur in that harness. As is the case with other toys I’ve worn that have larger bases (the Taro is a good point of comparison), I find the pressure spreading out over my crotch means I have less need for padding than I do with smaller dicks. I also find it transmits pressure from the dildo to my genitals pretty well. Not quite as effectively as a dedicated grinding base, but still pretty well.

While the large size and heavy silicone do mean I can’t use the Minotaur on a day when my hips are really playing up, it’s very manageable most of the time (and my hip issues are again a personal thing). In fact, the size meant the bottom I used the Minotaur with wanted more slow and smaller thrusts.

The challenge of the Minotaur for the bottom side of things means it probably won’t make it into my regular rotation, but I’m really excited about breaking it out for my size queen partners. As well as giving a lot of fun pressure to the wearer and being easier on the hips than I expected, it also makes me feel really sexy to wear. While it’s not the most important thing about a toy, the list of toys I’ve admired myself wearing in the mirror after strapping on is a surprisingly short one, and the Minotaur immediately shot to the top of the favourites list on that factor.

Overall

The Minotaur was always going to be a winner for me, but where it shone (and didn’t, at least for me) surprised me. If you know you have a prominent pubic bone or you don’t want to chance it, it wouldn’t be my first choice for a vaginal dildo. However, it really pleasantly surprised me with how well it performed in a strap-on harness. I still would like the option of Vac-U-Lock holes where possible, but it’s not make-or-break.

Definitely keep an eye on the sizes — especially if you’re not already a monster dildo aficionado. Even in the XS the Minotaur is a hefty chunk of silicone. I also do think 40% is the right choice for firmness — it (on the XS size at least — I can’t speak for others) gives enough squish to make the texture noticeable but not overwhelming, while also not making the Minotaur difficult to insert or meaning it can’t stand up on its own. If you know for sure you prefer a firmer silicone I can see maybe stretching to 75% firmness, but I do think the texture here is a bit too much for medium firm or extra-firm.
