Review: Valm Dual Density & Triple Density Realistic Dildo

So I get a lot of emails from toy retailers or manufacturers, but it’s pretty rare that I get one that actually excites me. Valm is one of the rare few that made me go ‘oh yeah, I definitely want to work with them’.

While new to me, Valm has actually been around since 2015, and their founders have been in the sex toy industry since the early 90s. This fills me with a lot of confidence — while I do appreciate sex toy companies coming out of experiences in other industries, it is very much its own beast (and I have complicated Feelings about sextech companies that seem to want to distance themselves from the existing sex toy industry). Valm’s entire manufacturing process takes place in the USA, with their dildos made from platinum cure silicone (also sourced within the USA).

At the moment, Valm is focusing on a core set of products, with a water-based lube, silicone lube, and triple and dual density dildos in 6, 8, 10, and 12 inch options. While the dildos on their website are currently only available in a light skin tone, a dark skin tone, and black, they are planning on adding extra skin tones, as well as a colour picker that will allow people to choose their own shades, including fades. And while not currently available on their website, they were lovely enough to send me some review toys that are in brightly coloured fades.

Both Valm Dildos

As I said, Valm is focusing on a core set of products. What this means in practice is that regardless of size, the dildos they offer are pretty similar visually. I received both an 8 inch version (in dual density) and a 6 inch option (in triple density), and they look very similar aside from scale.

They’re realistic in shape, with a defined head, vein detailing, and balls. The shape of the shaft on both dildos is quite straight, so it’s not likely to be a toy that’s right for those looking for targeted g-spot or prostate stimulation, but the shafts in general are at a good medium between ‘bendable enough to have some flex’ and ’not so bendy they’re not controllable’.

The base also has a suction cup, which walks the line between ‘strong enough to stand up to use’ and ‘not so strong it’ll take paint or a tile off on removal’ pretty well. While I generally find suction cups can get in the way or are a bit bulk during strap-on play, I found the 6 and 8 inch models were quite different during testing, so I’ll get into that in more detail in each section.

The one mild niggle I have with the Valm dildos is entirely aesthetic. My Valm dildos are both fades, with one starting as an orange and fading into pink, while the other starts as yellow and fades into orange. However, the very base of the balls and the suction cup are cast in the same colour as the tip rather than the same colour as the base-end of the dildo. I see why this happened — the suction cup and where it attaches to the dildo needs to be cast in a firmer single-density type of silicone — and it is just an aesthetic issue (and one that doesn’t impact the single colour toys currently available either), but does still look a little odd to me.

Dual Density

The dual density dildo is noticeably firmer than the triple density one, although I can definitely feel the difference between it and even a soft single density toy. I’d compare it most to the Pleasure Works dual-density toys I have — the outer layer is squishy and can be somewhat manipulated, and the dildo’s head is all squish, but it does feel quite firm for a dual density toy.

That said, the firmness has its own benefits. While Valm currently only has straighter toys, if they do branch out to curved toys in future, I think the slightly firmer dual-density would be a great choice for more targeted stimulation.

I also have found I prefer the slightly firmer silicone for anal play, above the triple density. While I love squishy toys in my butt, that comfort does also go hand-in-hand with slightly more difficult anal insertion. The head of the dual-density Valm dildo is squishier than its shaft, so that difficulty isn’t completely mitigated, but it is a lot easier.

I do notice a bit more of the texture on the dual-density than I do on the triple density, but in use it’s still pretty minimal — I can pick out that I’m feeling something on the vein textures, but not identify what the texture is.

Triple Density

The triple-density Valm dildo is significantly softer and squishier than the dual density. I honestly just fiddle with it sometimes, because the texture is just so pleasing to the touch.

My only direct point of comparison for a triple-density dildo is the Uberrime Amante, and admittedly the Valm dildo is less soft than that. It also has a bit less differentiation between the three layers of silicone — I can feel and move a ‘skin’ to the Valm dildo, but not quite in the same way that I can on the Amante. But it does compare really well to higher end dual density toys that I own. It actually feels remarkably similar to my VixSkin Mustang, which is considered to be the gold standard of dual-density silicone by a lot of people, if that gives you some indication of how it feels.

If I were to make one criticism it’d be that some of the texturing details are lost in the triple density. But in fairness the texture was not really the draw to Valm’s realistic dildo shape — the texturing is definitely more visual than sensual.

6 Inches vs 8 Inches

As well as my dildos being different silicones, they’re also different sizes. As there’s very little curve to the Valm dildos, I didn’t find this actually changed the experience in a fundamental way (except for one being a bit larger than the other), except in one way — the suction cup.

The suction cups on the 6 and 8 inch models add the same amount of height to the dildos, but the suction cup on the 8 inch option is a little larger. In practice, I did find this bulk made it a lot less comfortable to wear in a harness, and in combination with the larger balls, I found it was a bit uncomfortable and bulky to harness.

Admittedly, this is very much a ‘your milage may vary’ thing, and heavily depends on what kind of harness you’re using and how. I tend to use the SpareParts Joque, which doesn’t have a backing plate, and has an o-ring that doesn’t stretch quite wide enough to fit around the suction cup backwards. If you’re using a harness that does have a backing plate or an o-ring that stretches that much, this likely won’t be an issue for you. But it is something that came up in testing, so I did want to mention it.

That said, even then this was an issue exclusive to the 8 inch dildo. Even with the suction cup and balls on the inner side of my Joque, I didn’t find they added too much bulk, and I didn’t get uncomfortably jabbed during use.

Overall

Valm’s triple density silicone is really good, and even though it’s more comparable to my dual-density toys than my triple-density one, it’s still comparable to the high end of dual-density. It also offers that at a really competitive price — the 6 inch triple density realistic Valm dildo is $99, which (with the exception of the petite Spur) is a good deal more affordable than any VixSkin toy I’ve seen. That triple-density 6 inch dildo from Valm is definitely going to make it into my strap-on toy rotation.

While the dual-density didn’t blow me away as much, I am excited to see how it suits any further toy shapes they might explore. In particular, I think if Valm created a slightly more curved toy and sans balls, they’d have a really excellent pegging toy (and one that’d have a good chance of taking the title of my favourite).

  1. I’ve heard Vixen silicone is quite tacky. In comparison, how’s the Valm triple density silicone?

    1. That’s definitely true about the Vixen silicone. While they have pretty similar squishes, Valm triple desnity has nowhere near as much (just gave it a quick squeeze and there’s maybe a tiny bit?) and I have noticed it also picks up less lint
