Review: Primal Hardwere Widget

Alongside the Knot Gag (which I’ve reviewed previously), Primal Hardwere (a sex toy company who focus on fantasy and/or furry inspired toys) sent me one of their inflatable toys for review- the Widget. Like the other Primal Hardwere inflatables, the Widget is a canine inspired toy, with a ‘knot’ that can be filled with air using an inflation bulb. As Primal Hardwere’s toys are hand sculpted, the Widget only comes in one size, although it is the smallest inflatable dildo that Primal Hardwere offer. While my Widget doesn’t come with one, you can choose to have yours include a lube tube, and can even choose to have your Widget not include inflation. No matter your choices, the Widget has a flared base, making it both anal safe and harness compatible.

widget2.pngI told Primal Hardwere that I liked blues and greens, and received a Widget with a gorgeous colour split. The base is an almost peacock-like shimmery turquoise, while the shaft and knot is a marble of a light blue and white[ref]Or possibly a very light blue that’s close to white? I’m not sure[/ref]. You can of course request your Widget in another colour or colours, including custom colours, metallic additives, and glow in the dark options.

Just because the Widget is the smallest inflatable toy that Primal Hardwere offer and it’s on the smaller end of fantasy toy sizes doesn’t mean it’s not substantial. With a length of 6.68 inches, a usable length of 5.3 inches, shaft circumference of between 5.1 and 5.3 inches, it’s a chunky toy. And that’s not even taking the knot into consideration, which even deflated has a circumference of 6.1 inches. The partner I used my Widget with (and who has since bought his own Widget, which is an endorsement if I ever saw one) was only able to insert the uninflated knot in post-orgasm. While I was able to take the whole toy (both vaginally and anally), it felt larger than expected in use, even without inflation.

The maximum inflation for the Widget is three pumps of the hand pump, and inflating further than this can damage the toy. That said, I’ve never actually inflated the Widget with three pumps in use, as at full inflation the Widget’s diameter is nearly three inches. While I can inflate the Widget once or twice comfortably, the partner I’ve used my Widget with didn’t find any level of inflation comfortable. The inflation is uneven- the knot isn’t perfectly round and inflates on one side more than the other. But while this is pretty noticeable when looking at the Widget, it didn’t feel odd or uncomfortable in use.

The Widget’s tip is slightly tapered, allowing for smoother insertion, and its large fur textured base means it’s also pretty stable standing up. I’ve utilised the stability by riding the Widget on the floor and unlike some toys, I haven’t had any issues with the Widget slipping or moving during use. The Widget is a dual density toy even without inflation, and the softer, squishier outer layer means it feels plush and pliable, while still having enough firmness in the inner core to feel realistic.

widgetbase.pngThe large and flared base also means that the Widget is strap-on harness compatible, and I’ve really enjoyed using it for strap-on play. While I did have some concerns about the inflation tubing being awkward to place or possibly getting in the way during sex, tucking it under the straps of my harness kept it out of the way. While I tend to default to using my SpareParts Joque for strap-on play, I preferred using my leather harness from Sh! with the Widget, as it allowed for the balls to be visible during play. The straps of my Sh! harness did prove less useful for keeping the tubing out of the way than the straps on my Joque, but personally I found the visuals made it worth it. The Widget isn’t a toy I can pound my partners with, but it’s excellent for slower and more gentle thrusts, as well as for having partners ride me while I’m wearing the Widget.

While I do wish my Widget came with a lube tube, other than this I can’t think of any complaints I have about the Widget. The real only caveat I would add is that while Widget is small for a fantasy toy, the knot might be a bit of a challenge for those who aren’t used to large toys. Other than that, the main factor that I think is worth consideration is price- while the Widget isn’t cheap at prices starting from $70 (with +$35 for the inclusion of an inflation bulb and +$20 for the inclusion of a lube tube), it is a hand-made toy from a small company that caters to a niche kink. If you’re looking for a cheaper fantasy dildo or inflatable toy and don’t care about having both in one toy, there are options at a lower price point. But if the Widget fits your kink niche, it’s well worth it for a versatile[ref]In that you can use it for anal play, vaginal play, harnessed use or riding[/ref], highly customisable and well made toy.

If you’d like to buy a Knot Gag, you can get one from Primal Hardwere from $70
