Review: Firefly Yoni Stroker

I get hyped up about sex toys relatively frequently, but it’s rare that I get hyped up about the actual reviewing process. The NS Novelties Firefly Yoni stroker is one of those rare toys I was excited about even just seeing, partly because it’s a kind of toy I don’t review very often, that I’ve been wanting to review in a different way, and because it’s very specific kind of toy in that category I’ve wanted to be able to point to for ages.

I have reviewed penis sleeves and strokers before, but from mostly from the perspective of a penis having partner. Where I have talked about using them myself, it’s either been very brief or has been in a ‘hacky’ kind of way (turning TENGA eggs inside out and rubbing with them, etc). With the Firefly Yoni, I wanted to write a review primarily from a ‘using this penetratively and solo as a person without a permanently-attached-penis’ point of view. This is partly because it’s new territory for me as a writer/reviewer, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t also a little bit because I know I cannot be the only person in the world who has solo sex this way, and I would really like to know for sure.

With that in mind, my elevator pitch for the Firefly Yoni is that it’s a $36 silicone stroker.

Silicone vs TPE Strokers

When it comes to insertable toys, I strongly recommend against TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) toys. These materials have large enough pores that bacteria can grow in them, and they therefore can’t be sanitised in the same way that silicone, glass, and metal can. However, it can be hard to find external toys (such as Fleshlights, TENGA eggs, or other penis sleeves) in silicone, and if they’re strictly used externally, left to completely dry after washing, and checked for mold, TPE toys are relatively safe. But they’re not perfect, and if I can point to an affordable silicone alternative, I will.

Silicone sleeves do exist, although I’ve mostly seen them from fantasy toy makers and at quite high price points. I personally love fantasy toys (and following my experiments with the Yoni am now extremely tempted to buy one for myself), but I’m aware they’re not for everyone. While the Yoni isn’t fully realistic, coming in either a glow in the dark blue or pink, it’s a lot less stylised than some of the offerings out there. And at $36 (!!), it is cheaper than a bunch of TPE sleeves I’ve seen. I have seen some other sleeve toys at around this price point before, but the Yoni is the first one I’ve seen that’s anatomical.

While there’s less of an infection risk with TPE sleeves compared to TPE dildos, silicone does still have some benefits. It lasts a lot longer and doesn’t have the built-in limited lifespan that TPE does. You also have to worry less about storing sleeves with other silicone toys (or using them with them, as I did).

The Firefly Yoni Stroker

The Firefly Yoni Stroker is a $36 (I know I keep bringing it up, but I really want to emphasise that) silicone stroker. The internal texture is relatively simple— just a series of ribs—and the external is shaped like a pretty bog standard sex toy vulva— relatively even labia and a small clitoris. There did used to be anal (although with little bumcheeks, which is my personal least favourite kind of anal sleeve) and mouth versions of the Yoni, but I can’t seem to find it on stock anywhere. There is still the abstract Firefly Moon though, if the vulva shape really isn’t your thing.

The Yoni also comes in pink, but… listen, I’ve thirsted over blue alien women too much on this blog to pretend that the blue isn’t a plus for me personally. Also, I really want to highlight (ha!) that the glow in the dark feature isn’t mild. It really pops, as I discovered when my girlfriend walked into our bathroom in the middle of the night and exclaimed ‘what the fuck is that’ at the Yoni drying beside the sink.

One of the reasons that people often choose TPE over silicone sleeves (aside from cost) is that silicone—on the whole—tends to be a bit firmer than TPE. The Yoni is the softest silicone I’ve ever seen used on anything but a packer. It is genuinely so soft I keep stroking it as I write this review, because the texture feels so nice. There’s a bit more tension when it’s tugged than there would be on TPE (and the softness means it picks up a lot of lint).

‘If You Don’t Have A Penis, Why/How Do You Use The Yoni?’

An extremely reasonable question! And one with a very straightforward answer— I really like strap-on topping, including when I’m just having solo sex. I’ve been getting away with borrowing my girlfriend’s Fleshlight/off-brand Fleshlight for a while, but I’ve been looking for a) my own sleeve and b) a sleeve that doesn’t have a bulky case. The benefits of silicone don’t apply to strap-on use as much as they do to conventional use— my strapped-on cock doesn’t have the infection issues that a flesh-and-blood cock does—but I do still appreciate the longer lifespan, and I like not having to worry about how TPE will react to the silicone of the toys I’m fucking them with.

I genuinely have no idea if anyone else in the world wants or is looking for a sleeve to use for solo strap-on sex, but if there is somebody else out there, the Yoni works really well! The opening is slightly bigger than that on the TPE sleeves I’ve used, so I don’t get the same feeling of slight resistance that works really well with a grindable dildo base, but does mean I’m not constantly a little bit afraid I will literally split it in two. That said, I find this (plus the minimal resistance from the very simple internal texture) makes it better suited to more furious humping, and the lack of a heavy case makes it work really well for the times I want to either just move it on my strapped-on cock by hand or thrust up into something.

I’ve only used the Yoni with toys on the smaller side of my collection. I’ve mostly used it with the Shilo, because that dildo feels most like ‘my’ cock out of all of my collection. I have tried it with other and larger cocks, up to around 2.2 inches in diameter, but I do really want to caveat that with the fact I cannot say that it will be comfortable for flesh-and-blood cocks that large.

I will attempt to scissor pretty much anything at least once, so I also tried out the Yoni as a grinding toy. It… really did not do much for me, if I’m being honest, other than make me want my Alia really badly. That said, I really enjoyed fingering the Yoni. Again, I don’t know if this is something anyone else in the world likes or wants to do, but fingering a very lubed up Yoni with nitrile glove covered fingers was really hot for me. So hot that I’m struggling to not describe it in very annoying cringy ways like ‘purr’ or ‘unff’.

In terms of if I prefer the Yoni over the sleeve I’ve previously been using the most (which is imo best described as a knock-off of the Fleshlight Ice Lady) the answer is mostly yes… with some caveats. If I want to get off on the grinding part of strap-on sex, I prefer a bit more resistance than Yoni gives me. Depending on what angle I want to fuck from, the hard case can make it easier to prop it up in place against some pillows (although it also can make it more difficult from other positions!). Generally, I prefer not being able to see through the sleeve I’m fucking, so I prefer the solid coloured silicone of the Yoni over clear TPE….with the exception of my Strap-On-Me ejaculating dildo, which I really love getting to see nut.

Overall

While the lack of a hard case means I can’t hump the Firefly Yoni as hard as I can the other sleeves I’ve been using, I prefer it overall, and if I had to whittle my collection of sleeves and strokers down to one toy, it would be this one. There’s slightly less resistance from grindable bases, but for me that’s worth the trade off for feeling confident about using silicone dildos with a stroker and having more flexibility with use given I don’t have to lug around a heavy case. Plus, you know, if I’m playing solo I can always just grind on toys on their own.
