Review: Fuze Ultra Silicone Dildo

I’m a bit of an evangelist for grinding bases for strap-on toys. I’ve made a whole list of the ones I’m aware of (which — whenever you’re reading this — will probably need updating. Sorry about that), and have reviewed a good chunk of them. But something I haven’t reviewed yet — despite it being my first introduction to the concept of strap-on toys with grindable parts — is toys where the surface is built into the dildo.

The Fuze toys aren’t the only offerings in this category — there’s also the Vixen Mustang Royale, which has a built in saddle base, for those looking for dual density. But they were the first toys I saw with built in grinding bases, and finally (after a good few years) I’ve actually got around to getting one into my hands (and review box).

Fuze is one of those companies where I actually wonder how and why I haven’t reviewed anything from them before. They’re a Canadian based (with manufacturing taking place in the US) company who offer a lifetime guarantee on toys, pay a living wage to their employees (and base prices on cost of manufacturing, which is why they don’t do direct sales), and are open about their environmental commitments.

As well as that, they’re exceptionally gender inclusive in their language and product design. They also avoid my pet sex toy peeve by calling what would usually be called ‘strapless strap-ons’ the more accurate ‘double-enders’.

The Fuze Ultra

So in terms of dick design, the Fuze Ultra is a pretty standard phallic looking toy. Relatively slender, its shaft is also only 6 inches long in total. The Ultra is circumcised (although Fuze also make the Foreman, which is uncircumcised), and while it has some texture from vein detailing, it’s not what I’d call a heavy textured toy.

The standout feature on the Ultra is the grinding base itself. As well as a hole for a bullet vibrator, it has a curve-shaped grinding surface with a ribbed texture. It’s very even texture, and cast in the same silicone as the rest of the toy. Fuze describes this as having an ‘ultra-realistic feel’, and while I can see where they’re coming from with firmer dildos as the comparison, I’ve been strapping on dual-density long enough that it actually feels quite firm to me. It’s definitely bendable with some give and flex, and the base isn’t uncomfortably firm, but it doesn’t have the squish or give of my Vix Mustang or the soft cushion feeling of my Lippi.

The Fuze Ultra comes in three skin tone options, although SheVibe currently only stocks the light and medium tones. If you’re interested in a toy with a built in griding base, but the Fuze Ultra is a little too phallic/realistic for your tastes, they also have a similar base on the Nova, Rebel, Velvet, and Perk.

Strapping On

Out of all the dildos I’ve strapped on, the Fuze Ultra is the one where the harness has mattered the most. My go-to harness is my Joque, and the placement there just totally didn’t work for me. I experimented with a bunch of harnesses and found the one that worked best was the Aslan Jag, which has a much lower placement of O-ring than my other harnesses.

The other challenge I found with the Fuze Ultra was getting the grinding surface into the right place. I have a pretty fat mons pubis, so while the top of the head of my t-dick is visible, the most sensitive part of my anatomy (the underside of the head) is tucked away. To get the base into the right place, I did need to move my labia apart and tuck the dildo base into place.

Once in place, the base of the Fuze Ultra is… very different to the grinding bases I’ve used before. It doesn’t act as a cushion in the way the the Lippi or Bumpher do. Instead, the base of the Fuze Ultra purely adds friction. This isn’t a failure, but does mean it’s very different from more padding-focused bases.

I will say that while I was concerned about when I first unpackaged the Fuze Ultra was that bullet vibrator hole, I was happily wrong on this. With some toys I’ve tried previously, a void left for a bullet vibrator has ended up collapsing during use without one inserted, but the silicone of the Fuze Ultra is firm enough that it remains stable, even if I deliberately put much more pressure on that pice of silicone than would actually occur during harnessed use.

Grinding & Texture

So with the caveat that the Ultra’s base doesn’t cushion in the same way squishier bases do and it’s grinding focused, how does it actually feel? Pretty good! The firmer silicone that means it doesn’t prevent mons bruising also means there’s a pretty firm texture, which combined with consistent pressure works really well. I think it’s also worth noting the curve of the Ultra’s base plays a really big part here — it fits with the shape of my body a bit more than other bases have, so feels like an extension of it a bit more.

I’m torn on whether I like that the texture is pretty consistent and repetitive or not. On the one hand, part of me does wish for a bit more variety in the grinding texture, but on the other hand this repeated texture means if there’s a slight different in placement, the sensations on the receiving end remain pretty consistent.

I did experiment with a bullet vibrator (Tango X my beloved) into the hole in the base of the Ultra, and while it didn’t make-or-break how orgasmic the toy is for me, I did really enjoy the added sensation. There is some muffling of the vibrator intensity through the silicone, but the hole is placed close enough to the grinding base that most of the vibrations are transmitted pretty effectively.

Inserting the Fuze Ultra

For all I’ve talked about the Fuze Ultra on the topping side, on the bottoming side of things… I honestly don’t have a huge amount to say. As I’ve said, it’s a relatively slim dildo, so doesn’t take much time to work up towards. There is a pretty visible seam on the shaft, but I don’t feel it in use.

While marketed as ‘lifelike’ softness, I’m used enough to dual density toys that the silicone here honestly feels relatively firm. There’s some give to it, but I wouldn’t describe it as squishy in any way. However, that does mean I’m more confident using it for g-spot or prostate focused stimulation than I would a very soft dildo.

The curved base is a mixed bag with non harnessed use. If the dildo is being held by the person using it, the curve makes it actually a lot more comfortable to hold than flattered based toys. The flip side of this is it can feel a bit awkward and weird to hold while using on somebody else.

Overall

The Fuze Ultra’s base is not a neat replacement of grinding bases like the Lippi or Bumpher in the way that I expected, especially in that it doesn’t offer mons padding. It’s a lot more particular in placement, requiring a harness that places it pretty low on the body, and people like me who have pretty a fat mons pubis may find they need to rearrange their labia to get the Ultra’s base into the right place.

Once it’s in place though? The Ultra definitely feels like a very organic extension of my body, in a way I’d say is more effective than dildos with an attached base. The curved base and the fact it’s built into the dildo means fits the contours of my body in a way that means there’s no point where I feel me and the toy are separated, which can be a source of dysphoria for me on occasion.

I don’t think the Fuze Ultra is doing a lot that’s original when it comes to the insertable half of it, but I don’t think it needs to. The curved base on its own is a great feature that works really well. I think its appeal and selling point is primarily for strap-on tops, and while I’d definitely love the shaft to be a bit bigger, I appreciate that the small size means it’s accessible to a wider range of bottoms (and it’ll be one of my go-to grab bag toys for bottoms I don’t know the preferences of).

In short: looking for something that feels realistic on the bottom end? Get a Vixskin dildo. Looking for a buffer to avoid mons bruising for a top? Get a detachable base. But want a dildo that feels a lot like an extension of the body for the top, only looking for a base that delivers sensation, and with bonus points if it’s short and slender on the bottom’s side of things? The Fuze Ultra is right up your alley
