Review: Aslan Leather Jaguar Harness

Note: This is less of my normal review format, as I had a slightly complicated relationship to the Aslan Jaguar Harness at first. While I ended up really liking it, I do want to address how and why it was a bit of a journey to get there, in case the factors that impacted my relationship with it are ones that’ll impact you too.

Ok, so confession time. I did not like the Aslan Jaguar Harness when I first tried it on. In fact I…. kinda hated it.

This is, in part, I think because I’d hyped the Jag up so much before purchasing it. Everybody rants and raves about how good it is, and in my mind it had taken the position of ‘the best harness you will have, the one that will change your life’. Obviously, it wasn’t going to live up to that.

There’s also the fact I have some very specific preferences when it comes to strap-on harnesses. My personal dysphoria cannot deal with my vulva being out while I’m topping, at all. And by vulva, I do not mean just the front of the crotch, as most harnesses seem designed around, but the whole thing, all the way to the back. My ideal harness would start coverage at the top of the mons pubis and carry on all the way back to the taint. Wearing underwear under a harness also makes me feel like shit, so that’s not an easy way out. To make things even more complicated, I am also a fat guy who can both get In My Feelings about low-rise harnesses and prefers wider harness backs.

So the first time trying on the Jag, with its thin straps, low rise, and lack of total pussy coverage (which I know is a niche want, but there’s got to be some leather harness out there that does it, right?), I felt a little bit like hot garbage.

What I Liked About The Jag, Even At The Start

It sucked that the Jag and I did not get on so great at the start, because there was still a ton I loved about it.

The leather itself is absolutely gorgeous. It’s soft without being so thin I worry I’ll rip it, and it smells absolutely divine. The hardware is thick and chunky and weighty (although do note the Jag does come with a stretchy black o-ring, which I’ve replaced with a metal one, so that’s not original hardware).

The types of fastenings and placements make a ton of sense for how I personally put on harnesses— the waist has buckle holes so I can make sure everything is even, whereas the leg straps use double d-rings, giving them a ton of flexibility with sizing. Plus, having buckles makes toys feel super secure when strapped on.

Aslan Leather is also a trans-owned company, with their harnesses coming with a lifetime guarantee, which I love.

How I Got Over My Issues

So I’ve talked about what I didn’t like about the Jag to start with, and the next step from that is talking about how I fixed these, at least enough to make using the Jag viable/enjoyable for me.

Firstly, I mostly solved the puss exposure issue using an Aslan Double Up Cuff. It’s actually meant for holding a dildo in place so the harness wearer can be penetrated while they top, but it works pretty well as a slightly hacky vulva cover. Does have a tendency to slip and need readjusting, but it’s enough to make me be a lot more chill about it.

On the low rise side… it’s not really something quickly actionable for anyone reading with the same problems, but I’ve tried to get more comfortable with my body. Some of this has been through trying to find depictions of people with bodies more like mine using strap-ons (on that note, check out anything where Ramses Rodstein gets to strap), but a lot of it has just been work on trying to become more comfortable with my body.

Interestingly, part of what’s got me more comfortable with the Jag’s fit is working with a local pro-dom, primarily for specific skills coaching but also around dominant persona and confidence. I think finding that the motifs and images I pull on when conceptualising the kind of persona I want to play in kink actually involve a lot of fat dudes has been helpful getting me comfortable with my belly being more visible.

The thin back is still something I’m ‘hmm’ about. I’m aware of the Minx upgrade, but I’m a basic butch and hate the corseting detail. I really wish Aslan had something with the same shape but plainer, similar to the Sh! Super Strap-On Harness. But like. It’s fine. Once the harness is actually on and I’m occupied by fucking, I don’t notice it too much.

(On that note, if you know any queer leatherworkers who very specifically work with sewn garment leather rather than single layer thicker leather and would be up for making making a custom plain back attachment for the Aslan Jag, please let me know.)

Re-evaluating The Jag

So, in light of having made those adjustments, how do I feel about the Aslan Jag now? I don’t adore it (and I think to find a harness I actually absolutely adore I will have to go custom), but I do really like it.

First, I want to highlight that while I went for a pretty basic Jaguar in black with silver hardware, there’s a ton of colour options available. There’s a red Jag, a purple one, a pink one, a brown one, a pink and white one, blue and white, red and black, purple and white, and black and purple. Also a vegan option, if real leather is a no for you (although I can’t speak to the longevity of it).

The Jag comes in two sizes, with a ton of adjustability in each. I wear size 38-40 jeans and am around an 18 (?) in UK women’s sizes, and choose size B, which is recommended for hip sizes 36-56”. There’s a lot of leftover leather, and I think I maybe should have gone for size A (there’s crossover between sizes) to avoid having quite so much loose leather flapping around, but it still fits well.

Changing O-rings is super easy with the Jag, as the leather strips holding it in place use snaps. The leather is more robust, so I was worried it wouldn’t give the same ‘I forget I’m wearing it’ experience as my Sh! harness, but this wasn’t the case at all. It really does blend into feeling like an extension of my body.

The Jaguar harness also keeps dildos super secure. I’ve known intellectually that there’s a level of stretch with my SpareParts harnesses, but I can really feel the difference with the Aslan Jag. I can really

Aside from general leather harness caveats (not machine washable, possibly not the choice if you’re using a harness with multiple partners) and earlier mentioned personal quibbles, my only issue with the Aslan Jag is the snaps for the o-rings. While they make switching out o-rings super easy (which I love), it does limit the non-stretchy ring sizes you can use. This doesn’t bother me too much, as the metal o-ring I’ve put in has worked fine for all but my particularly big or small cocks. You’ll definitely have some flexibility with ring size with silicone rings, as you can stretch it to fit the straps if needed, although this will deform the ring slightly.

Overall

The Aslan Jaguar Harness is not the perfect, be-all end-all harness I dreamed of it being. But it is solid and well constructed, and my issues with it are personal taste rather than actual faults with the product. If you don’t have the same brainworms as me, I don’t think my criticisms will be a factor for you at all.

I prefer the wide back of the Sh! Super Strap-On Harness from a body flattering perspective, but the Aslan Jag is better constructed and hardier (and I prefer the front’s shape). It’s definitely an investment piece, as it’s not cheap, but if you do want a solid leather harness that’ll last you a long time, I can’t think of a non-custom harness that beats the Jag (or Minx if you’re not as allergic to wearing corsetry as me).
