Review: We-Vibe Ditto+

The first vibrator I ever truly fell in love with was my We-Vibe Tango. While I’m not as married to it as I was back in the day — in college, that thing was my absolute pride and joy — it’s left me with a good deal of goodwill towards We-Vibe as a manufacturer.

The We-Vibe Ditto+ is actually only the fourth We-Vibe product I’ve owned (and one of the others was just the updated Tango X), so I went in with high hopes. And reader, I was not disappointed.

The Ditto+ is — as its name suggests — an upgraded version of the Ditto. I don’t actually own an original Ditto, so I’m not able to fully break down the difference between the two versions. From what I can tell, the main differences are that the Ditto+ comes in new colours (a satin black or the sparkly pink that I received), and has had a redesign of the remote control. For what it’s worth, while different prices on We-Vibe’s own website, the two cost exactly the same at Lovehoney.

The shape reminds me a little of Fun Factory’s Bootie Fem plugs — instead of a symmetrical t-bar base, the base of the Ditto+ is asymmetrical, with one end significantly shorter than the other. It’s relatively slim, and at its widest point is just 32.42 mm. It’s waterproof (although the remote isn’t — more on that in a second), and comes with a two year warranty.

Inserting and Wearing the Ditto+

The Ditto+ is marketed as a butt plug for beginners, and while I can see it being hard to convince a total anal newbie of that $129/£109 price tag, I see why. It’s a very slim, easy to insert toy that isn’t too much of a jump up from a couple of fingers.

I’d describe myself as an intermediate anal player (the occasionally large dildo is an exception rather than my rule), and I’ve found I generally don’t need to prep much for the Ditto+. At most, I used a gloved and lubed up finger, and on occasion when I’m feeling lazy I have just been able to get the lubed up Ditto+ in without fingering beforehand.

While a little odd, the shape is really comfortable! Insertion is smooth and the neck is exactly the right size — narrow enough that my butthole doesn’t eject the plug when I orgasm, thick enough that taking a plug out after I’m doing with it doesn’t feel like an uncomfortable jump up.

I was a little curious about that uneven base, and wasn’t sure which way around the plug was meant to go. The long side facing to the anterior side of the body would make sense for perennial stimulation, while the short side facing that way made sense for allowing vaginal access (much like the Bootie Fem I mentioned earlier). Turns out, either works — I generally have the long end facing forwards, as I rarely combine my Ditto+ with vaginal penetration outside of review testing, but that’s personal taste and not an issue with the plug.

Ditto+’s Vibrations

The We-Vibe Tango blew my mind when I was younger, and made me totally rethink what a bullet vibrator’s vibrations could even be. The Ditto+ didn’t quite do the same, but it did really impress me. It is by far the rumbliest vibrating butt plug I own, and the contest isn’t even close. Admittedly, my butthole is a lot less fussy when it comes to vibrations than my clit is, but the vibrations on the Ditto+ are so good I can just get off using it as a clitoral vibrator.

Vibration patterns and intensity can be controlled independently with the remote, but there’s set pattern and intensity combos that can be accessed through the button on the base of the toy. They are:

• ‘Low’ – a steady setting
• ‘Medium’ – a steady setting
• ‘High’ – a steady setting
• ‘Pulse’ – sudden stops and starts
• ‘Wave’ – steady gentle oscillation between high and low intensities
• ‘Tease’ – four stop and start periods, following by four more intense bursts
• ‘Ultra’ – slightly faster than ‘wave’, but similar
• ‘Massage’ – sharper and faster oscillation between high and low speeds
• ‘Tempo’ – repeated periods of ‘medium intensity followed by high, back to medium’
• ‘Ramp’ – slow build up to high intensity, followed by a drop

I’ve recently warmed a bit to vibration patterns, but I’m still definitely not the kind of consumer who gets much out of a bunch of pattern options. Out of all of the options, I basically only stick with the steady settings, and I’m really glad that the remote allows intensity and pattern to be controlled separately.

Combining With Vaginal Play

I am — admittedly — not normally somebody who combines anal and vaginal play. In most cases, I find having anything in my butt means I don’t have enough space (or space at the right angles) for any kind of vaginal penetration, at least not without the anal toy being pushed out.

There are exceptions (including the CalExotics Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug that I’m currently mid-way through reviewing), but that does tend to be a rule when it comes to my body. Having PiV penetration or sex with the Ditto+ inserted is challenging for me because of that, but that is an anatomically issue rather than a product related one. And once double-penetration has been achieved, the Ditto+ stays in place really well!

My partner also commented that the Ditto+ feels really good for her if she’s penetrating me while it’s in and vibrating. Those rumbly vibrations feel really strong, even to the point where she says it’d work really well for forced-orgasm play.

Remote Control

I’ve already mentioned that the remote control that comes with the Ditto+ allows for intensity and pattern to be controlled separately. This is something I really appreciate — I like being able to intensify the vibrations without risking turning to a pattern and having to double back on myself. The remote isn’t waterproof, which does mean it can’t be used for shower or bath play, but where appropriate I do appreciate being able to control intensity without having to contort my body into the right angle to reach the plug base.

Fellow blogger Princess Previews found they had some issues with the remote control of the Ditto+ they were sent. While I definitely think that’s something to consider (and would generally recommend checking out Grace’s work in general!), this isn’t something I found in my experience. I found the remote control was very consistent and reliable, and was able to use it from a distance of about 8 meters, including through a wall and a layer of clothing.

The We-Vibe App

My personal interest in the We-Vibe app is honestly pretty minimal (I live with one partner and don’t tend to do long-distance play with any of my other partners), but I tried it out for completeness of the review. I do appreciate that We-Vibe allows you to use the app without creating an account, and is open and up-front about its data protection policies.

As well as articles including sex education and tips, the app has two main sections on its home page: Toys (which can be used for solo play), and Long Distance Play. Connecting the toy is pretty intuitive. Unfortunately, I didn’t get a lot from using the app — the solo play section allowed me to select vibration patterns and in theory allowed me to control intensity, but in practice I found it was way less precise or reliable than just using the remote.

I have generally found a lot of fun from music features in sex toy apps, so this was the thing I was most looking forward to with the We-Vibe app. But I found I couldn’t get it to connect to my Apple Music account (which is what I mostly use for music). I am also aware that having an Apple Music account is not the statistical average — I often feel like the only person who doesn’t use Spotify, and that currently isn’t an option for the app.

Issues

The appeal of the Ditto+ was not attached to the app for me personally, so I’m not too cut up about the issues with that. However, there are some criticisms I have of the Ditto+ itself as a toy. My Ditto+ has quite a few aesthetic flaws in its silicone, and while I love the glittery pink colour, this seems to do a good job of highlighting those flaws even more.

Overall

I personally love my Ditto+, and my go-to personal masturbation sesh has evolved into often using it in combo with my Zalo Bess or Doxy Die Cast 3.

I will freely admit the flaws mean it doesn’t feel like a luxury product, which it absolutely should for the price tag. I also found a lot of issues with the app, and probably won’t freely choose to use it with my Ditto+ any time soon.

However, the vibrations are rumbly and wonderful, meaning that while it’s an approachable size for beginners there’s still something there for more experienced anal players. It’s currently my favourite butt plug by a long margin.
