Review: CalExotics Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug

While I love getting shiny, expensive toys to review as a blogger, I am aware that the average person is often running on a tight budget when it comes to choosing their sex toys. Because of that, over the years I’ve tried to review more affordable toys across categories (including strap-on harnesses and dual density dildos). Today, I’m reviewing a beginner friendly, very affordable butt plug, in the form of the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug from CalExotics.

At just $7.99 I think the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug may actually be the most affordable product I’ve ever reviewed on this blog! And that price point doesn’t come with unsafe materials — the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug is made from silicone (and did pass the flame test I put it to), or with a uncomfortable or safe design. In fact, I’d actually recommend the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug as a first buttplug if you’re looking to test the waters on anal play.

The Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug

So the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug is not exactly revolutionary in its design, but this isn’t a bad thing! Instead of a traditional cone shape, it has two bulbs that resemble anal beads. They’re not perfectly round, instead being slightly more squished oval shapes.

The base on the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug (as with a couple of other beginner friendly plugs CalExotics offers) are a t-bar shape, rather than the round or heart shapes you sometimes see on butt plugs marketed towards anal newbies. I’m a big fan of this for a number of reasons — in general a t-bar flared base is more secure than a round one, and the t-bar shape fits more comfortably between the buttcheeks for longer term wear. The main downside of t-bar bases is they can get in the way a little bit more if they’re being combined with vaginal sex, but this is anatomy dependant and also something I specifically looked at when testing the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug.

The only thing I’m not super crazy about on the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug is the CalExotics logo on the base of the bar. This is at least printed rather than imprinted into the toy, which I’ve seen on other plugs and makes cleaning a pain, so my issues are purely aesthetic rather than function. And I’m willing to put up with it for a good beginner friendly buttplug, which the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug is.

Using The Plug Its Own

Even ignoring the price point, the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug is designed pretty well! The t-bar base fits comfortably between my cheeks, even as a chubby guy with quite a bit of ass going on. And te longer ovaloid shapes of the bulbs means the shape is a lot more tapered than a rounder bulb would be. Insertion is pretty smooth and seamless, and I like that the two bulb design means somebody using this plug gets to feel anal sphincter open and close twice.

The larger of the two bulbs is the first one to be inserted (which I did originally question, but I think makes sense when it comes to taking the plug out — which I’ll talk about in a moment), and it’s at the widest point just about the circumference of two of my fingers. Maybe a little bit over? Either way, it’s a good size for anal newbies — small enough that it’s easy to work up to with a finger, but large enough that it’s actually a jump up from a single finger.

The neck between the base and second bulb is a good shape and size. It’s long enough to make the plug comfortable and stable, thin enough that the plug stays in even with squeezing, while also being thick enough that pulling the plug out doesn’t involve a sudden jump up from a thin neck to a very thick bulb. While I was sceptical about the smaller bulb being nearer the base at first, after removing the plug I realised it makes sense, and does make the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug as comfortable to remove as it is to insert.

Combining With Vaginal Play

I was curious if the symmetrical shape of the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug’s base would end up covering up part of my vulva and restricting access, but this didn’t turn out to be the case. While everyone’s body is different and I can’t guarantee it won’t get in the way of vaginal or vulva play, I didn’t have any trouble with that.

I also didn’t have any trouble combining wearing the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug with vaginal penetration. Testing with my partners, we found it stayed in place comfortably during penis-in-vagina sex, double penetration with a silicone dildo, and vaginal fingering. In the case of the penis-in-vagina sex, the partner who was topping mentioned they could feel some level of tightness, but it wasn’t uncomfortably tight. This feels in line with my experience fingering somebody wearing it. In the case of double penetration, even a very firm silicone dildo didn’t manage to push the plug out of place.

Overall

I’m really impressed by the Boundless 2X Teardrop Plug! It isn’t an entirely new design, nor will it shake up the sex toy industry. But it’s excellent at what it does even in little niche ways, available at an affordable price point, and comes in a size that’s very beginner friendly. If you’re looking to experiment with butt stuff but are on a budget, I can’t think of a better place to start!
