As I have the past couple of times New Years has come around, I wanted to give a retrospective on my blogging life for 2022. It’s been a busy year that got slower towards the end (sorry I only posted one review in December—I was very tired and then got covid).
The big news from this year was that Trans Sex: A Guide For Adults was published! I finished writing the original version at the end of last year (which I mentioned in last year’s roundup), but this year has still been busy with edits and clarifications, and other kinds of work. (I chatted with Jake Hall about this for Refinery 29, if you’re interested).
I didn’t actually hit most of the goals I set-out for 2022 in my last yearly roundup. My main rope partner take a pause on rope, and while we’ve come back to it, suspensions are gonna be a ‘next year’ thing. I didn’t manage to find my dream leather strap-on, and have basically just come to the conclusion it will have to be a custom job. I also didn’t try out a vulva pump. However, I did write more erotica this year (much of which hasn’t been posted here, but a few pieces which have).
I also managed to hit most of the products in my review wishlist, including the Sh! Thigh Strap-On Harness, SpareParts Tomboi Harness, and more grinding toys.
What To Expect In 2023
So I’m actually having surgery in the first quarter of 2023 (exact date hasn’t been decided yet, and I don’t think I’ll share it even when I do have it) that will impact my ability to have sex for a bit. I’ll probably talk about it a bit after the fact, but for now I’m not entirely sure how this will impact how able I am to do review work for a while. Because of this, I don’t want to get too excited about review goals for now.
However, there’s definitely a few things I want to get my hands on:
- The SpareParts Tomboii, given how much I loved the Tomboi
- A Vixskin silicone dildo. Everyone has been bigging them up for years, and I feel like the fact I don’t yet own one
- The NYTC Carter Dildo, partly because I’m just amused by the idea of having a pack-and-play that large
- The Fuze Foreman, because I’ve been curious about that grinding base for ages
I’m also tentatively shopping around for a place to pitch a second book. Absolutely will not be out in 2023 (I think realistically we’re looking 2025 at the earliest), but I’d love to make some progress on that!

Only this low on the list because it was a latecomer and because my personal sex toy preferences are not super bullet-friendly. Between its affordable price, rumbly motor, and fun colours, the Blush Limited Addiction Power Bullet Vibe is probably going to be the toy I recommend most as a ‘first toy’. Also the fun 70s colours of the Psyche model got me to use acid jazz as background music for solo sex sessions for a month solid, which is an achievement in itself

The PeenPocket is my favourite t-dick sized penetrable toy, and in another year it’d place much higher than ninth place. The slightly curved lip means it fits much tighter to my anatomy, and while the ejaculating tip isn’t something I found any value in, it does have the distinct honour of making me have a gender euphoria moment when I looked at myself in the mirror while wearing it.

Grinding toys have exploded onto the market in 2022, and I am glad to see it! The Uncover Creations Tentacle Grinder is a highlight for me because of its flexibility—it works for thigh strapping with a partner or grinding on pillows solo. Also I think it’s a really fun design!

An affordable silicone stroker? Hello! The Firefly Yoni isn’t groundbreaking, but it’s good. That review was also a big moment for me, as admitting I strap-on solo (and like sleeves/Fleshlights/etc for that reason) felt weirdly… vulnerable?

Again, cheating a little by including two in one spot! Of the two harnesses, I think the Aslan Jag is the better made and would probably be the best option for most people. However, as a chubby guy I find the wide back of the Sh! Super Strap-On Harness feels more comfortable and makes me feel sexier (I’m a basic butch and don’t like the lacing detail of the Aslan Minx, before anyone suggests it).

The Uberrime Alia was the first grinding toy I reviewed, and one of the first reviews of 2022. I’m so glad I got off to such a great start! The Alia really is excellent and even as I’ve bought a few more grinding toys, the Alia has stayed a favourite. It’s very versitile, the themeing works great for me and, as with all Uberrime products I’ve owned, the craftsmanship is excellent.

The first brief style harnesses I tried were RodeOh ones back in like 2016 (pre-reviewing days even!). They honestly really put me off underwear-style harnesses, especially once the SpareParts Joque came into my life and got me to love strap-on sex. However, I wanted to give them another shot and try the SpareParts Tomboi, and I’m so glad I did. I actually bought myself a second Tomboi in a different colour because I like it so much, and I can’t think of better praise than that!
